Disney continues to regret taking on Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.
DeSantis is not taking any guff from woke corporations.
And Ron DeSantis laid the smackdown on Disney with this bombshell announcement.
Last year, Disney decided it wanted a fight with Governor DeSantis over the Parental Bill of Rights in Education.
The legislation banned teachers from grooming students in grades K-3 into transgenderism with sexually inappropriate curriculum.
Disney’s left-wing employees revolted and CEO Bob Chapek announced Disney wanted to see the bill killed or struck down in court.
After Major League Baseball yanked the 2021 All-Star Game out of Atlanta to protest the state’s new election integrity law, Republicans were fed up with woke corporations bullying red states with economic blackmail.
So Governor DeSantis fought back.
DeSantis signed legislation ending Disney’s special tax and self-governing privileges.
In a new special legislative session, DeSantis supported new legislation to appoint a new board to oversee Disney and the Reedy Creek District where the House of Mouse is located.
CNN reports:
Republican lawmakers on Monday unveiled a bill to turn over control of Disney’s special taxing district, called the Reedy Creek Improvement District, to a five-member board chosen by DeSantis. The proposal also comes with a rebrand; Reedy Creek would become the “Central Florida Tourism Oversight District.”
The move to take over Reedy Creek is the latest step in a yearlong spat between DeSantis and Disney over a bill to restrict certain classroom instruction about sexual orientation and gender identity. DeSantis signed the bill into law over the objections of Disney’s then-CEO Bob Chapek.
President of Walt Disney World Resort Jeff Vahle tried to spin the move as good for the company.
“Disney works under a number of different models and jurisdictions around the world, and regardless of the outcome, we remain committed to providing the highest quality experience for the millions of guests who visit each year,” Vahle stated.
Over the last decade, Democrats counted on woke CEOs to undercut red state opposition to liberal social issues.
In 2015 and 2016, corporations and sports leagues threatened to boycott North Carolina and Indiana over legislation protecting religious liberty and banning biological males from using women’s bathrooms.
Republicans were furious over companies acting like Democrat Party Super PACs.
But Ron DeSantis was the first to actually fight back.
