Joe Biden pushing another illegal student loan bailout
President Joe Biden has serious problems with key parts of the Democrat base heading into the 2024 Election.
Putting the 82-year-old President back in the White House for four more years is not generating enthusiasm among younger voters, who are the least likely to turn out.
So once again, he is trying to buy them off with an ambitious plan to cancel student loan debt for up to 30 million borrowers.
The Supreme Court already smacked him down for illegally acting without Congressional approval, after he first tried to do it in 2022.
Ron DeSantis slams Biden’s plan to try and buy votes
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis blasted Biden’s scheme to cancel student loan debt during a bill signing ceremony in St. Petersburg.
He said that colleges should be required to pay for the loans of students who cannot get gainful employment after their education.
“What he’s proposing illegally — he doesn’t have the authority to do it — is to basically say, if you’re a truck driver, you didn’t go to college, you don’t have student debt, sorry, you’re going have to pony up to pay the student loans of somebody, who maybe, got a degree in sociology or something and is not gainfully employed and can’t afford the loans,” DeSantis explained. “That is not fair.”
DeSantis said that the ploy was made to give Biden a political boost.
“I think he’s maneuvering to figure out ways to give himself an advantage in the election,” DeSantis said.
The Sunshine State is not letting Biden get away with these vote-buying schemes without a fight.
Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody (R) and five other Republican attorneys general, filed a lawsuit against Biden’s Department of Education’s SAVE Plan.
The SAVE plan is an income-based repayment plan for federal student loans that reduces payments, freezes interest, and cancels certain loan debt launched last year.
“Last year, the Supreme Court struck down Biden’s illegal attempt to force Americans to pay off someone else’s debt,” Moody said. “Now, Biden thumbs his nose at the court like he has done with so many issues, including immigration, and does what he wants, trying again to mass-cancel student debt. We will fight in court to make sure that hard-working Americans, who are struggling to buy groceries thanks to Biden, are not on the hook for other people’s debt.”
It remains to be seen if Biden’s latest student loan plan survives a legal challenge.
But it is clear he’s willing to break the law to drag himself across the finish line in November.
