Fentanyl has become the biggest public health crisis in the country under President Joe Biden.
The wide-open southern border is allowing Mexican drug cartels to smuggle massive quantities of the deadly synthetic opioid into the country.
Drug overdose deaths, primarily from fentanyl, crossed the grim 100,000-per-year mark for the first time in history after Biden took office.
Authorities in Florida confiscated a staggering amount of fentanyl during a drug bust in Polk County.
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office arrested three men involved in a fentanyl trafficking ring that smuggled the deadly drug from Mexico into California before it was shipped to Florida.
More than 22 pounds of the drug were seized by authorities with an estimated street value of nearly $2.5 million.
Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said that the vast quantity was enough to kill more than five million people “if taken in overdose amounts.”
Though the sheriff’s office managed to get it off of the street, the deadly drug is still flowing into the country almost unimpeded across the U.S.-Mexico border.
The seizure was another tragic reminder that the country is being flooded with fentanyl manufactured on an industrial scale in Mexico with chemicals from China.
“These drugs are extremely dangerous, and the people bringing them across an unsecure border are evil,” Judd said. “Of the three men arrested during this investigation, two are in the country illegally and the Sinaloa cartel drug trafficking organization is the source of supply for this poison. I am very thankful for our local, state, and national law enforcement partners, including state prosecutors Mr. Haas and Ms. Lopez, for working together to make this a successful investigation.”
Two of the drug traffickers arrested were Mexican nationals that are in the country illegally.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis demolished Biden on social media after another major fentanyl bust in his state.
