Ron DeSantis made one major announcement after the debate that caught Donald Trump by surprise

Ron DeSantis took center stage on Wednesday at the Republican Presidential debate.

The debate served as a make or break moment for Ron DeSantis.

And Ron DeSantis made one major announcement after the debate that caught Donald Trump by surprise.

Eight Republican Presidential candidates went toe-to-toe on Wednesday at the first debate of the 2024 election.

Donald Trump decided to skip the debate on Wednesday due to his massive lead in the polls, his refusal to sign the GOP loyalty pledge to support the eventual nominee, and his dislike of Fox News Channel.

Instead, Trump chose to sit down for an interview with Tucker Carlson that he released five minutes before the debate.

But Trump’s absence provided Florida Governor Ron DeSantis with an opportunity to take the spotlight and make his case to Republican voters.

And DeSantis did exactly that during the debate, taking several opportunities to remind voters of his excellent track record as Governor of Florida.

He highlighted his battle against the woke ideology, including removing Critical Race Theory and the Left’s gender ideology from the classroom.

“I stood for our kids,” DeSantis told the audience.

DeSantis also seized on the opportunity to rip Donald Trump and Mike Pence for their mishandling of the COVID pandemic.

He particularly took issue with the Trump administration instituting a national lockdown and allowing Anthony Fauci to call the shots.

DeSantis promised the audience that if he became President, he would “never let the Deep State lock you down.”

The Florida Governor’s performance at the debate apparently caught the adoration of several state and local officials across the country.

“Over 20 state- and county-level officials endorsed Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) for president on Thursday following his performance at the Republican National Committee’s primary debate on Wednesday night,” the Washington Examiner reported. “The 21 new endorsements hail from 10 states, including Arkansas, California, Colorado, Illinois, Kansas, Mississippi, Tennessee, Texas, Washington, and Georgia — where DeSantis’s biggest primary opponent, former President Donald Trump, is set to be booked in jail on Thursday.”

In a statement, Tennessee State Representative Gino Bulso said America “needs a president who understands how to rebuild the American dream and fight for the middle class,” adding that “Ron DeSantis has the vision, experience, and energy to reverse our economy’s decline and make life affordable for working families.”

DeSantis now has more than 300 state-level endorsements from across the country.

But these more than 20 endorsements are exactly the type of post-debate momentum boost Ron DeSantis needed to turn his campaign around.
