Businesses and people are fleeing blue states in droves.
High taxes, burdensome regulations, and out-of-control crime are some of the top reasons for this mass exodus.
Now Ron DeSantis’ pro-freedom policies just won another major victory that has Democrats furious.
Of all the blue cities in America, Chicago, Illinois is among the worst.
It’s practically a warzone, with over 3,500 shootings in 2021 alone.
Add to that crippling taxes, corrupt government officials, and powerful union bosses, it’s a wonder anyone chooses to try to run a business there.
Now Ken Griffin, who owns Citadel Securities, has decided he has had enough and moved his business from Chicago to Miami, Florida.
Griffin had previously spoken out about the out-of-control crime in the Windy City.
“If people aren’t safe here, they’re not going to live here,” Griffin told the Wall Street Journal in April. “I’ve had multiple colleagues mugged at gunpoint. I’ve had a colleague stabbed on the way to work. Countless issues of burglary. I mean, that’s a really difficult backdrop with which to draw talent to your city from.”
Ron DeSantis welcomed the new business to the Sunshine State, touting Florida’s business friendly policies.
“Under Gov. DeSantis’ leadership, Florida is booming, because it’s a free state,” DeSantis Press Secretary Christina Pushaw told Fox News Digital shortly after the announcement that billionaire Ken Griffin is moving his company, Citadel Securities, from Chicago to Miami. “Workers and business owners do not have to worry about lockdowns, restrictions, or mandates. Taxes are low, while infrastructure continues to improve.”
“Moreover, Florida is a law-and-order state,” Pushaw continued. “Violent crime has skyrocketed in cities like Chicago because of pro-crime leftist ideology. We do not tolerate that in Florida. Because of our safe, business friendly environment, businesses from all over the country are relocating here, creating jobs and income. We welcome Citadel to Miami as the latest new arrival!”
The company’s move follows a trend of migration away from the failed policies of blue states like Illinois to places like Florida.
Between July 2020 to July 2021, the population of Illinois dropped by 113,776.
Over that same time, Florida gained 211,000 new residents.
Obviously, America’s Governor has the right idea, and people and businesses are voting with their feet.
