AOC went on ABC and giggled about the "Woke 1" era like it was a college phase she outgrew.
Ron DeSantis just reminded her that people died.

What AOC Actually Said – and What She's Hiding
ABC's Jonathan Karl handed her a softball, and she still managed to expose herself.
“When we talk about crime today, it’s fundamentally different from the way that we talked about crime in bringing crime down,” she said.
Ocasio-Cortez borrowed a line from a New York City councilman – "Woke 1 was crazy" – and laughed it off like she was joking about a bad haircut.
She claimed the "doors were really open" during COVID to try radical policies, and that the conversations were "quite fruitful."
That is not a walk-back.
That is a politician holding two positions at once – winking at her socialist base while assuring moderates she's grown up.

What she said in 2020 was deliberate.
When New York City proposed cutting $1 billion from the NYPD budget, she said it didn't go far enough.
"Defunding police means defunding police," she told reporters. "It does not mean budget tricks or funny math."
She was leading the movement – not getting swept along by it.
The Bodies Behind the Punchline
DeSantis wasn't interested in the laugh track.
“‘Oh, that was just Woke 1,’” he said. “‘It was crazy.’ Like really?” DeSantis said during a press conference in Pensacola. “You’re really going to just say that it was a mulligan or something like that? Like, people were actually attacking law enforcement.”
“They wanted to defund the police,” he continued. “You did have candidates and still have candidates who talk about abolishing prisons.”
But he wasn’t done.
“You got swept up in that frenzy. Not me. Not Florida,” DeSantis added. “We were the first state to fight back, and we fought back very quickly. But you got swept up in that frenzy. You don’t get to say, ‘Oh, that was yesterday, let’s just move on.’ If you’re embracing things like abolishing law enforcement? Abolishing prisons?”
He's right.
The FBI reported murders rose nearly 30 percent in 2020 – the largest single-year increase on record.

After New York City slashed its police budget by $1 billion, shootings rose 97 percent and homicides climbed nearly 45 percent.
AOC's own congressional district saw major crimes surge 57 percent.
Her constituents were begging for more police while she was in Washington demanding less.
Those aren't statistics.
Those are real people – most of them minorities in Democrat-run neighborhoods – who paid the price while their representative was performing on social media.
Florida never went there.
DeSantis pushed anti-riot legislation, protected police funding, and refused to let the left dismantle law enforcement under the cover of activism.
No Florida governor laughed it off on ABC five years later.
Why This Matters Right Now
AOC isn't backing away from these positions because she was wrong.
She's backing away because she wants to run your country.
The woman who said "defunding police means defunding police" into a microphone – and meant every word – is now the name Democrats keep landing on for 2028.

She wants the nuclear codes, the border, the FBI, and every federal law enforcement agency that "Woke 1" wanted abolished.
The "Woke 1 was crazy" routine isn't growth.
It's a costume change.
DeSantis got it exactly right: you don't get a mulligan when people died.
The cops who quit or retired early because of the political climate she helped build – they're not coming back.
It just tells you what she thinks of the people who lived through it.
