Donald Trump’s growing list of unforced errors have breathed new life into the DeSantis campaign ahead of Iowa.
But DeSantis just confronted the reality about it all being over.
And DeSantis admitted four words about backing Trump to reporters that left everyone sitting in slack-jawed silence.
Once again, Ron DeSantis proves he is a man of his word.
During an interview with MSNBC’s Willie Geist, DeSantis was asked if he’d support Trump as the nominee after all he’s done to destroy America.
Geist went on to blast Trump for trying to overturn the 2020 elections and stealing classified documents and again asked DeSantis if “that person” (Trump) should be President.
DeSantis didn’t hesitate and simply replied “I signed a pledge.”
“And that pledge is what it is,” DeSantis continued.
“Now, do I think somebody under those circumstances can get elected President? The answer is no, that will not happen. I think that Republican voters will understand that as we get closer to voting,” said DeSantis.
“But it is, it would be fatal in a general election. And I don’t think the Party should nominate in that situation,” DeSantis stated.
“I signed a pledge”
DeSantis was clear he’d win the nomination, but refused to go back on his pledge to support Trump if he ended up as the Republican nominee.
“However, I signed the pledge. I’m a Republican. I don’t think it’s going to come to that – we’ll get the job done like we need to – but the reality is, I signed it, and that’s what I did,” DeSantis said.
Geist was still stunned and couldn’t comprehend the fact that DeSantis would back Trump.
Just to be sure, he again asked DeSantis, “So you stand by that, this morning?”
Without missing a beat, DeSantis replied, “Yeah – when I signed the pledge I knew – you never know what’s going to happen. It’s a crazy process. People make different decisions. And I think my point of view on it was – I’m participating in this process, I’ve got the plan to win, we’re going to win.”
He continued “But at the same time – it’s like you can’t just take your ball and go home.”
“You can’t on the one side of your mouth say the country is in decline, Biden’s failing, and on the other hand say I’m going to pout if things don’t go my way,” DeSantis said.
DeSantis remains optimistic; vows to win – but says he’ll back whoever GOP voters nominate
DeSantis is confident he can beat Trump and he’s not giving up the fight.
But the fact he admitted that regardless of what happens he’ll still support the nominee shows the character of Ron DeSantis.
He’s a faithful man of his word, and there is no doubt he will work as hard as he can to become the Republican nominee.
But should he not succeed – he vows he’s still committed to doing what’s best for America.
