Ron DeSantis Signed Florida’s Sharia Law Ban and Then Said Something About Britain That Has Europe Fuming

Apr 11, 2026

Keir Starmer blocked American bombers from Diego Garcia while Iran fired missiles at our allies.

Now DeSantis is saying out loud what millions of Americans have quietly concluded.

DeSantis just told Sean Hannity viewers that Europe's "political and cultural ties" with America are gone – and explained exactly why.

How Keir Starmer Blocking Diego Garcia Ended the Special Relationship

Britain was our closest friend for two centuries.

Same language, same legal traditions, same Constitution rooted in English common law – the bond went deeper than treaties.

Then Keir Starmer blocked American bombers from using Diego Garcia when the Iran war started on February 28.

Trump called it out immediately: "He ruins relationships. We are very surprised. This is not Winston Churchill that we're dealing with."

He wasn't wrong.

Starmer eventually relented – but not before burning critical time while Iran launched missile and drone attacks across the Middle East.

France denied American overflight requests.

Italy blocked U.S. aircraft from landing at Sigonella.

Spain restricted airspace and base access entirely.

These are NATO allies – countries whose defense America has funded for decades – refusing to let us use their soil to stop a nuclear Iran.

DeSantis had a simple explanation for why this happened.

"They've imported, in mass numbers, people who don't want to be British, don't want to be French," he said Monday on Hannity.

"They want to take where they came from, and they want to change those countries to reflect things like Sharia."

What Florida's Sharia Law Ban Actually Does to CAIR and the Muslim Brotherhood

The same day he appeared on Hannity, DeSantis signed HB 1471 into law in Tampa.

The bill – the most robust anti-Sharia legislation any state has ever passed – bars Florida courts from enforcing any foreign or religious law that conflicts with the Constitution.

That explicitly includes Sharia.

It also gives Florida the authority to designate domestic terrorist organizations independently of Washington.

The Muslim Brotherhood is already in DeSantis's sights.

CAIR is next.

"Millions for public safety, millions for education," DeSantis said at the signing, "but never one red cent for jihad."

He pointed directly to Britain as the cautionary tale – a country where politicians told concerned citizens not to worry about Sharia 10 or 15 years ago.

Now they're living with the consequences.

Florida is choosing a different path.

How Mass Muslim Immigration Made Europe Useless to America in the Iran War

This isn't a new story – it's the end of one.

Europe began importing mass Muslim immigration in the 1960s as guest worker programs.

Governments promised integration.

What followed was parallel legal systems, honor crimes, no-go zones, and terrorist cells embedded in major cities.

By 2017, a Chatham House survey of 10,000 Europeans across 10 countries found a majority opposed to further Muslim immigration – with opposition especially pronounced in Austria, Poland, Hungary, France, and Belgium.

The citizens figured it out long before the politicians admitted it.

The Hudson Institute put it plainly: European politicians "are not winning the struggle with Islamism" – and their failure is now directly harming American national security.

DeSantis connected that failure to what just happened in the Strait of Hormuz.

Europe won't join us militarily because their Muslim populations – and the Left-wing parties that represent them – make it politically impossible.

Starmer answers to Labour voters in Birmingham and Bradford, not to Donald Trump.

That political reality is now a strategic liability for the United States.

Trump Called NATO Allies Cowards and Rubio Just Backed Him Up

DeSantis was careful not to spell out consequences.

He didn't have to.

Trump already spelled them out.

"You'll have to start learning how to fight for yourself," Trump posted on Truth Social. "The U.S.A. won't be there to help you anymore, just like you weren't there for us."

Both Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth made the same point directly to European capitals: America will not keep defending countries that block American forces from using their bases.

The transatlantic alliance that won World War II and contained the Soviet Union is now contingent – contingent on Europe deciding whose side it's actually on.

DeSantis's answer is that they've already decided.

They chose to import populations hostile to American military objectives.

Now they're living with that choice – and so are we.

Florida just decided it won't make the same mistake.
