Ron DeSantis placed his Presidential campaign on hold to lead Florida’s recovery efforts in the aftermath of Hurricane Idalia.
Donald Trump saw the disaster as an opportunity to take a swipe at the Governor.
And Ron DeSantis was furious after Donald Trump made the disaster recovery efforts in Florida about politics.
Ron DeSantis is managing the recovery efforts in the aftermath of the Category 3 hurricane that made landfall on Wednesday.
By Thursday afternoon, DeSantis announced that power had already been restored to more than 420,000 people in Florida.
Within 12 hours of the hurricane’s landfall, DeSantis announced that the majority of roadways and all state bridges had been cleared and made safe for travel.
Donald Trump is a resident of Florida.
And on Wednesday afternoon, Donald Trump wrote a heart-felt message to the people of Florida in a post on Truth Social.
“Our hearts go out to everyone impacted by Hurricane Idalia,” Trump wrote. “I urge everyone to listen to your local officials, heed all warnings, and prioritize the safety of yourself and your loved ones.”
“I’ve witnessed the courage, strength, and spirit of the great people of Florida many times over the years!” Trump continued. “Together, they will recover and rebuild, but in the meantime, be safe.”
But Trump soon changed his tune.
In a post on Thursday morning, Trump criticized Ron DeSantis’ handling of the hurricane recovery efforts and labeled him a “shame for Florida.”
“So now it is learned that Governor Ron DeSanctimonious unnecessarily approved a 20% hike in Florida Electricity Rates, the largest in history (by far!), after taking a 9.5 Million Dollar Campaign Contribution from ‘money machine’ Florida Power and Light, and subsidiaries,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “Next up to check out is the Insurance Industry, where DeSanctus gave up the store,” Trump continued, before adding that “his campaign and poll numbers have ‘CRASHED’ to a point where it doesn’t much matter anymore, but what a shame for Florida!”
Although Donald Trump politicized the disaster in Florida, Ron DeSantis refused to engage and remained focused on leading the recovery efforts in the Sunshine State.
Even Joe Biden briefly put politics aside to approve any emergency requests made by Ron DeSantis in the aftermath of the hurricane.
Ron DeSantis may be running for President, but his top priority is effectively carrying out his duties as Governor.
And DeSantis has so far performed exceptionally well for the people of Florida.
