Ron DeSantis visited Japan for a trade mission on Monday.
Fox News Channel’s Sean Hannity interviewed DeSantis by video on his program.
And Sean Hannity was surprised by what Ron DeSantis admitted about his relationship with Donald Trump.
Ron DeSantis was a close ally to Donald Trump during his time in the White House.
Trump’s endorsement catapulted DeSantis to victory in the 2018 gubernatorial GOP primary and on to the Governor’s Mansion that fall.
DeSantis and Trump remained friends and allies throughout the remainder of his Presidency and after he left the White House.
However, Trump began attacking DeSantis a few weeks before the Midterm elections by calling him “Ron DeSanctimonious.”
Trump has since ratcheted up his attacks and is now directing more of his fire at DeSantis than he is at Joe Biden.
During an appearance by video Monday on Fox News Channel, Sean Hannity asked DeSantis point blank what happened between him and Donald Trump.
“The last time I interviewed President Trump, I was there in 2018, and I always saw the two of you as friends,” Hannity began. “And I asked him a very simple question. I said, ‘What happened?’ And I think it’s only fair to ask you the same question.”
“What do you think happened?” Hannity asked DeSantis about his relationship with Trump.
DeSantis admitted that he always “enjoyed supporting him when he was President” and that he “worked really hard for his reelection in Florida.”
“I always had a good relationship with him,” DeSantis added.
But DeSantis said that all changed “once the midterm election happened” and “he started taking shots at me!”
DeSantis said he never did anything to Trump to draw the attacks.
“I didn’t really do anything to do it except do a good job,” DeSantis added.
By now, DeSantis has thick skin from all the left-wing attacks over the past two years.
He said he understands Trump and others will attack him because “when you’re making things happen, you take incoming from a variety of targets.”
“So that’s just the nature of the business,” DeSantis continued, before adding “and I’m happy to stand strong and do what’s right.”
DeSantis continues to take the high ground and refuses to engage in back-and-forth with Donald Trump.
As for his plans for 2024, DeSantis had two words for Hannity.
“Stay tuned,” he said.
