The Stop WOKE Act is a law Ron DeSantis signed last year that prohibits teaching Critical Race Theory or other woke left-wing garbage in Florida’s classrooms.
The Florida Governor set off a firestorm on the Left when he rejected an AP black history course because it violated the new law.
But the Chair of the Miami-Dade Black Affairs Advisory Board just said two words to Ron DeSantis that will infuriate the Left.
Democrats and their media allies erupted into a fit of rage when Ron DeSantis alerted the College Board Florida Partnership that his administration rejected the new Advanced Placement (AP) class in African American Studies because it violated the Stop WOKE Act.
“As submitted, the course is a vehicle for a political agenda and leaves large, ambiguous gaps that can be filled with additional ideological material, which we will not allow,” Press Secretary Bryan Griffin said at the time. “As Governor DeSantis has stated, our classrooms will be a place for education, not indoctrination.”
Of course, left-wing activists in the press slammed DeSantis as an authoritarian racist and accused him of trying to erase black history.
The Miami Black Affairs Board also took issue with DeSantis and voted to send him a letter condemning his position.
Miami-based attorney Stephen Hunter Johnson, one of the Board members, lashed out at DeSantis over rejecting the course.
“Our Governor is racist,” Johnson said. “He is using black America and black Floridians as a political football.”
But apparently Johnson doesn’t speak on behalf of the Board members.
And on Friday, the Chair of the Miami-Dade Black Affairs Advisory Board, Pierre Rutledge, apologized to DeSantis for Johnson calling him a “racist.”
“We take it to heart when someone uses the term racist,” Rutledge said. “Words matter. And so as chair, I must start by saying we want to pull that back. There’s nothing wrong with saying ‘we’re sorry.’ That’s not what we intended to say or be depicted by anyone. And that’s not the feeling of this board.”
As for the woke course, the College Board agreed with DeSantis and removed the controversial curriculum before re-submitting it to the state.
The new curriculum doesn’t include woke teaching about the origins and impacts of the Black Lives Matter movement, Black Queer Studies, or “the case for reparations.”
The woke Left has had a grip on America’s educational system for the past decade.
Ron DeSantis is breaking that grip and returning power back to the parents.
And the Left hates him for it.
