Ron DeSantis may have won in 2022 by a 19-point margin, but he barely got elected by the skin of his teeth in 2018.
DeSantis defeated Democrat Andrew Gillum by a razor-thin 0.04% of the vote in November of 2018.
But now the media is ignoring the Democrat on trial for crimes he committed while running against Ron DeSantis in 2018.
The media has long held Republicans – especially conservatives – to a much different set of standards than Democrats.
They attack and scrutinize every move a Republican official or a popular conservative pundit makes yet go out of their way to ignore the most heinous acts committed by Democrats.
Ron DeSantis has been a top target of the left-wing media for the past two years.
Democrats and the media have accused DeSantis of just about everything under the sun.
But the media is unusually quiet about the numerous charges DeSantis’ 2018 Democrat opponent is facing.
In 2020, news broke that Gillum was found naked in a Miami Beach hotel room after he overdosed on drugs while allegedly with a male prostitute.
Since Gillum is a Democrat, no one ever got charged in that case.
But Gillum is currently on trial for allegedly pocketing cash from his campaign, illegally receiving gifts, and lying to FBI officials.
“Gillum’s campaign team reached out to undercover FBI agent Mike Miller, who was posing as a developer exploring projects in Florida’s capital seeking campaign donations,” Fox News reported about Gillum’s alleged crimes. “The agent then made several donations which the campaign then funneled through a position at P & P Communications, a public relations agency owned by one of Gillum’s supporters, Milligan claimed. The prosecutor also alleged Gillum did not do any actual work for the agency.”
Overall, Gillum is facing 17 counts of wire fraud and one wire fraud conspiracy count, which carry a maximum sentence of 20 years each.
He’s also facing one charge of lying to the FBI, which carries a five-year maximum sentence.
Of course, if Gillum were a Republican, his trial would be front and center in the news.
In the past, Ron DeSantis ripped the media for making Gillum out to be a Democrat savior in 2018 while now ignoring the multiple crimes he is being charged with.
“What was presented to the public was that this guy was the second coming,” DeSantis previously said. “I would ask a lot of the media that propped him up whether they have any type of mea culpa on that.”
The media’s double standard is on full display with the treatment of Democrat Andrew Gillum’s federal trial.
