Three Trump-appointed Judges just handed Ron DeSantis a major victory in the fight for election integrity

Several Republican-led states are taking steps to increase election security before the Midterms.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is leading on this issue.

And three Trump-appointed Judges just handed Ron DeSantis a major victory in the fight for election integrity.

Last May, Ron DeSantis signed SB 90 into law.

The legislation ratchets up voter ID requirements, prohibits mass mailing and collection of ballots – a process known as “ballot harvesting” – and decreases the availability of ballot drop boxes across the state.

Ballot harvesting, where individuals go out and round up masses of mail-in ballots and drop them off at ballot drop boxes, is a preferred tactic of the Left.

So of course, leftists were outraged over the new law because it banned a lot of the tactics they’ve used in the past to great effect.

In fact, the day after Ron DeSantis signed the legislation into law, Democrat attorney Marc Elias filed a lawsuit on behalf of the League of Women Voters of Florida calling the new law a Republican response to unprecedented turnout last year and Trump’s “dangerous lie” of election fraud.

Barack Obama-appointed U.S. District Judge Mark E. Walker agreed with the Democrats’ lawsuit, writing that the law “runs roughshod over the right to vote, unnecessarily making voting harder for all eligible Floridians, unduly burdening disabled voters, and intentionally targeting minority voters—all to improve the electoral prospects of the party in power.”

“Having reviewed all the evidence, this Court finds that, for the most part, Plaintiffs are right,” Walker wrote in a 288-page opinion striking down the new law.

However, DeSantis maintained that he was confident the new law would stand up to scrutiny when it came before the Court of Appeals.

“We expect this law to stand up to any further legal scrutiny,” a statement from DeSantis’ office read.

“In Florida, Governor DeSantis is leading the way in making it easier to vote and harder to cheat, and election integrity protects every legal voter’s rights,” the statement continued.

And DeSantis was just proven right when three Donald Trump-appointed judges from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit revived the three blocked provisions of the law and suspended the “preclearance” regime forcing Florida to seek the Court’s review on voting laws over the next decade.

“First, we find the district court’s historical-background analysis to be problematic. We have been clear that ‘old, outdated intentions of previous generations’ should not ‘taint [a state’s] legislative action forevermore on certain topics,’” the order said.

Democrats are now appealing the ruling.

But since the Court stayed Walker’s ruling temporarily pending appeal, the new law signed by DeSantis will be allowed to go into effect.

This is another big win for Ron DeSantis and for supporters of election integrity.
