A Florida woman disappeared after a car crash but her rescue story has everyone asking one question

Strange things happen in Florida all the time.

But this latest case has law enforcement scratching their heads.

And a Florida woman disappeared after a car crash but her rescue story has everyone asking one question.

Missing woman sparks massive search after car found in canal

Jennifer Fisher’s disappearance began when authorities found her white 2018 Acura MDX sitting in a St. Lucie County canal on September 30.

The 53-year-old Jacksonville woman was missing despite a thorough search by the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office.

Law enforcement sent out their Aviation Unit, Drone Team, Dive Team, and K-9 Unit to search the area around Indrio Road and Johnston Road where Fisher’s SUV had gone into the water.

The search continued into the night but turned up nothing.

What made the case even more puzzling was that Fisher had left Jacksonville with a teal-colored electric bicycle secured to the back of her SUV.

The e-bike was missing from the crash scene, leading investigators to believe Fisher might have escaped on the bicycle.

Deputies learned that Fisher had planned to stay at an Airbnb for two nights, but the location remained unknown.

The sheriff’s office issued a missing person alert as concerns grew about Fisher’s welfare.

Strange discovery in ditch solves the mystery

Two days later at 5:35 a.m. on October 2, several 911 calls came in about a naked woman lying in a ditch on the 4400 block of Johnston Road.

People who called recognized the woman from the missing person alert that had been circulating on social media.

Law enforcement and St. Lucie County Fire Rescue responded and identified the woman as Jennifer Fisher.

But Fisher wasn’t talking about what happened during her disappearance.

Eventually, she revealed the strange truth to investigators.

According to the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office, Fisher "had crashed her vehicle, removed her clothing, and walked into the woods with the intent of staying there for several days."

Her only health issue was irritation from fire ant bites during her time outdoors.

The mysterious e-bike? Fisher told deputies she never had it with her when she left the crash scene.

Questions remain about Fisher’s intentions

Fisher was transported to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center for a medical evaluation while detectives from the Criminal Investigations Division continue investigating the unusual circumstances.

Look, this story raises more questions than it answers.

What would drive someone to deliberately crash their car, strip naked, and disappear into the Florida woods for days?

This wasn’t a panicked response to an accident.

The fact that she planned to stay in the woods "for several days" shows this was a calculated choice.

For folks dealing with their own struggles, Fisher’s story serves as a reminder that mental health crises can manifest in ways that seem completely irrational to everyone else.

The St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office thanked the community for sharing the missing person alert on social media, noting that public participation "directly contributed to Ms. Fisher being located safely."

What started as a potential tragedy ended with a woman found alive – naked, covered in ant bites, but breathing.

The investigation continues as authorities try to piece together exactly what drove Fisher to abandon her vehicle and disappear into the Florida wilderness.

One thing’s certain – this is a Florida story that nobody saw coming.
