Byron Donalds dropped one accusation about Letitia James that left her in a panic

Oct 29, 2025

Letitia James made a career prosecuting Donald Trump.

Now the tables have turned in a way she never saw coming.

And Byron Donalds dropped one accusation about Letitia James that left her in a panic.

James faces the same scrutiny she weaponized against Trump

Florida Congressman Byron Donalds appeared on Fox News’ Sunday Morning Futures and didn’t mince words about New York Attorney General Letitia James facing a Department of Justice referral for mortgage fraud.

“People who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones, and it is crystal clear that Letitia James has been under investigation for quite some time with her mortgage fraud issues,” Donalds told host Maria Bartiromo.¹

The irony is thick enough to cut with a knife.

James built her entire political career on taking down Trump for alleged financial improprieties.

She filed a civil fraud case against Trump and his company, accusing them of inflating property values to deceive lenders.²

A New York judge slapped Trump with a massive penalty that an appeals court later tossed out – though the fraud finding stuck.³

Now James is on the receiving end of the exact type of scrutiny she weaponized against her political opponents.

The Federal Housing Finance Agency formally referred James to the DOJ for possible prosecution.⁴

According to FHFA Director William Pulte’s letter to Attorney General Pam Bondi, James allegedly falsified documents to secure better mortgage rates on a Virginia home in August 2023.⁵

The allegations claim James listed a Norfolk property as her “principal residence” despite New York law requiring the Attorney General to maintain primary residence in that state.⁶

The evidence keeps mounting against James

The referral doesn’t stop with one property.

Pulte’s letter also points to alleged discrepancies on paperwork for a Brooklyn property James owns.⁷

She allegedly filed documents describing it as a four-family unit when it’s actually a five-family unit.⁸

“Based on media reports, Ms. Letitia James has, in multiple instances, falsified bank documents and property records to acquire government-backed assistance and loans and more favorable loan terms,” the referral letter states.⁹

Donalds highlighted the delicious irony during his Fox News appearance.

“This is accountability,” Donalds declared. “What you’re going to see out of this Administration is everybody’s going to be held accountable. The law will be upheld, justice will be done.”¹⁰

The timing couldn’t be more perfect.

James spent years pursuing Trump for the exact same type of alleged conduct she now stands accused of committing.

Her civil fraud case against Trump centered on claims he inflated property values on financial statements to get better rates from banks and insurers.¹¹

The parallels are impossible to ignore.

Democrats face a pattern of mortgage fraud allegations

Donalds serves on the House Oversight Committee, giving him a front-row seat to the mounting evidence against multiple Democrat officials.¹²

He specifically mentioned Senator Adam Schiff also faces scrutiny for “mortgage fraud issues” beyond just the allegations James confronts.¹³

Schiff, Trump’s chief impeachment prosecutor in 2020, has been under federal investigation by the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Maryland since at least this summer.¹⁴

The FHFA sent a criminal referral to DOJ in May alleging Schiff falsified bank documents and property records to get more favorable loan terms on a Potomac, Maryland property from 2003 to 2019.¹⁵

Schiff owns homes in both California and Maryland, and the allegations center on claims he listed the Maryland property as his primary residence to secure better rates despite being required to live in California as a Representative from that state.¹⁶

As of late October, prosecutors in Maryland have struggled to gather enough evidence to bring charges against Schiff, according to multiple reports.¹⁷

But the investigation remains ongoing.

The pattern is crystal clear to anyone paying attention.

Democrat officials who weaponized government power against Trump now face investigations for the exact type of conduct they accused him of committing.

Trump Administration delivers on accountability promises

Donalds characterized the investigations as a direct reversal of the previous administration’s practices.

He accused the Biden Administration of “using the justice department and the intelligence Community to go after their chief political rival.”¹⁸

“People work their whole lives and pay taxes, yet they find out that they’ve been giving $2 million to Guatemala for sex changes, it’s outrageous, and it’s going to stop,” Attorney General Bondi said about DOGE’s efforts to root out government waste and corruption.¹⁹

Maria Bartiromo noted during the interview that New York’s appellate court threw out the massive judgment against Trump in James’s civil fraud case.²⁰

Donalds called James’s case against Trump “the most silly case we’ve ever heard in our life.”²¹

He cited the valuation of Mar-a-Lago at a tiny fraction of its actual market worth as “complete insanity.”²²

The difference between the Trump Administration’s approach and the previous administration’s couldn’t be starker.

Biden’s DOJ went after Trump with everything they had – multiple indictments, raids on his home, attempts to bankrupt him through lawfare.

Now Trump’s DOJ is simply following the evidence wherever it leads.

James built her reputation on prosecuting Trump.

She ran for Attorney General on a platform of investigating him.

Now she’s learning what it feels like when the justice system actually works the way it’s supposed to – without political favoritism or selective prosecution.

The mortgage fraud allegations against James aren’t going away.

Wire fraud and bank fraud charges each carry potential sentences of up to 30 years in federal prison.²³

James’s attorney dismissed the allegations as “baseless” and “politically motivated.”²⁴

But her critics argue any errors on mortgage documents were clerical and lacked intent to defraud.

The investigation will determine who’s telling the truth.

What nobody can deny is the spectacular irony of watching James face the same type of investigation she enthusiastically pursued against her political opponents.
