What Fauci's Diary Proved He Was Hiding
Rand Paul didn't subpoena Fauci on a hunch.
He had over 1,000 pages of Fauci's own diary entries – private notes stored on government servers that Paul released before Wednesday's hearing.
The diaries proved what conservatives knew for years.
In a March 2020 entry, Fauci wrote that he personally told New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio to close the city's bars and restaurants.
"I went on to tell him he should close the bars and restaurants in NYC. He said that he would base this on my recommendation," Fauci wrote.

The same man publicly denied for years that he closed anything.
"I did not close the schools," Fauci told a previous committee.
The diaries also caught him calling Ron DeSantis "a complete disgrace" in an August 2021 entry – written while DeSantis was keeping Florida schools open and kids in classrooms.
DeSantis responded to the diary revelation with two words: "Badge of honor."
The Fifth Amendment Trap He Walked Into
When Fauci sat before Paul's Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee Wednesday morning, he had one strategy: refuse everything.
He invoked the Fifth Amendment in response to every question senators asked.
Every single one.
Senators asked him what color his tie was.
Sen. Josh Hawley of Missouri didn't hide his contempt: "Nothing says honesty like taking the Fifth, huh, doc?"
Sen. Ron Johnson of Wisconsin went further: "I think it would be almost impossible for you to answer the questions truthfully without really demonstrating what you did."
Ohio Sen. Bernie Moreno confronted Fauci directly – the video clip spread immediately across X – asking him: "Who the f*** do you think you were for doing that?"

Paul scheduled a contempt vote for August 5th, warning Fauci that refusing to answer Congress is "against the law."
Here is the legal problem Fauci created for himself.
Biden's preemptive pardon – issued in the final hours of his presidency – covers Fauci's federal conduct through January 20, 2025.
It covers nothing after that date.
Legal expert John Yoo was blunt before the hearing: "He can't claim that the pardon would cover any of his answers now. You can only be pardoned for lying to Congress from before the pardon. If he commits a lie before Congress now, he'll be committing a federal crime and could be prosecuted."
Fauci's lawyers knew this – which is exactly why they told him to say nothing.
Florida Is Coming Anyway
Rep. Anna Paulina Luna saw the clip of Moreno's confrontation and posted immediately: "Dr. 'Mengele' Fauci may be protected by a federal pardon but that does not hold against state prosecution and civil lawsuits."
Luna called on the attorneys general of Florida, Texas, West Virginia, and Arkansas to bring charges against Fauci for what she called crimes against children – exposing them to a vaccine now proven to carry risks.
Florida AG James Uthmeier answered within hours.
"Fauci's lack of candor to Congress is unbelievable," Uthmeier posted on X. "My office is launching an investigation into Dr. Fauci. It's past time we get the truth of what happened during COVID."
Uthmeier knows this terrain.

He served as DeSantis's chief of staff – the same governor Fauci privately called "a complete disgrace" while DeSantis was fighting the federal health establishment to keep Florida open.
Before Uthmeier's appointment, DeSantis himself had suggested the incoming AG might explore whether any Florida statutes were violated.
Biden's pardon was always a federal shield – and a federal shield cannot protect Fauci from a state that believes Florida children were harmed by pandemic policies he privately orchestrated while publicly denying responsibility.
Fauci spent yesterday telling the Senate he had nothing to say.
Florida's attorney general just told him the conversation is not over.
