The WNBA just called a meeting to decide if men are women.
Ron DeSantis saw the announcement and posted seven words that ended the argument.
Here's what he said – and why the league can't recover from it.
The League That Can't Answer a Simple Question
Sophie Cunningham said what every sane person already knows: biological men shouldn't play in women's sports.
That statement – the one every grandmother in America would agree with – blew up the 2026 WNBA season.
Commissioner Cathy Engelbert responded by sending a memo to teams announcing a formal meeting to "convene additional discussions and offer listening sessions."

The league's own collective bargaining agreement already says "only players who are women are eligible to play in the WNBA."
They can't define the word they wrote.
DeSantis went on X and posted exactly seven words: "WNBA meeting to decide whether 2+2=4 or 2+2=5."
That's the whole story.
DeSantis Has Been Right About This Since 2021
DeSantis signed the Fairness in Women's Sports Act in 2021 – saying at the time it was "based off biology, not based off ideology."
The Left called it cruel.
The NCAA threatened to pull championship games from Florida.
Five years later, the Supreme Court upheld state laws banning biological males from women's scholastic sports, ruling in June 2026 that the Equal Protection Clause and Title IX both permit states to designate sports participation based on biological sex.
DeSantis was right in 2021 – and the highest court in America just proved it.
Now the WNBA – a professional league, not a school – is scheduling listening sessions because one of its own players stated the obvious.
The Players Union's Response Said Everything
The WNBA Players Association put out a statement declaring they "embrace justice equity, diversity, and inclusion."
They added that players "will not be used as political pawns."

Then came this line: "Hate, abuse, and demonization of any person or group of people, including transgender people, only fuel fear, division, and harm."
Read that again – because they issued it in direct response to Cunningham saying this:
"I want to protect young girls in a locker room, or young girls in sport who shouldn't have to go against biological men," it read.
That's what the union answered with a statement about hate and demonization.
Meanwhile, two former NBA players have officially declared their intent to enter the WNBA draft to expose exactly how absurd the league's non-policy really is.
Enes Kanter Freedom says he's "not here to mock" – he just wants the league's "current rules applied to everyone."
The WNBA built a league around a word it refuses to define.
Engelbert Had One Job
No biological male has ever played in the WNBA.
The NCAA bans transgender women from women's competition.
Thirty states ban transgender girls from high school sports.
The Supreme Court just upheld every one of those policies as constitutional.

All Engelbert had to do was say the quiet part out loud: the WNBA plays women's basketball, and women means biological females.
Instead she called a meeting.
DeSantis called it arithmetic.
He was right five years ago when no one wanted to hear it.
He's right today.
