OpenAI lost $13 billion in the first half of 2025 alone – and is already asking Washington, DC to cover the tab.
Now Ron DeSantis is the only Republican saying out loud what Big Tech is quietly engineering.
And Ron DeSantis just called out Big Tech for laying the groundwork to steal your money.
The "Too Big to Fail" Trap Is Already Being Set
OpenAI has committed to spending $1.4 trillion over the next eight years – a company that has never turned a profit.
That is not a business plan.
That is a setup.
DeSantis put it plainly: "I also think they are laying the groundwork to claim that if they end up hemorrhaging money, that somehow they're too big to fail, and then they would seek to get a bailout from the federal government. That would be catastrophic."

He's right – and the paper trail proves it.
OpenAI's own CFO has already floated the idea of a government "backstop" for the company's financial commitments.
That one word – backstop – is Silicon Valley for "make the taxpayers pay if this blows up."
Even Senator Elizabeth Warren wrote Sam Altman demanding answers about whether OpenAI would seek a federal bailout, accusing the company of privatizing profits while engineering a situation where taxpayers absorb the losses.
When Elizabeth Warren and Ron DeSantis are saying the same thing, Big Tech has a problem.
The Amnesty Nobody Voted For
It's not just about bailouts.
DeSantis torched the U.S. House of Representatives for passing a 10-year moratorium blocking states from regulating AI – a move he called "basically an AI amnesty for these companies."
Amazon fired tens of thousands of Americans, blamed it on AI, then quietly hired 10,000 foreign H-1B workers at lower wages – and under a 10-year moratorium, your state couldn't do a thing about any of it.
The Senate stripped that provision out of the Big Beautiful Bill before Trump signed it.

But the fact that the House passed it at all tells you exactly who Big Tech's friends are in Washington.
DeSantis is now pushing a Florida AI Bill of Rights – consumer protections, data privacy, restrictions on AI exploiting your identity – and fighting to make sure Florida doesn't surrender that authority to the federal swamp.
"I think voters are going to look and say, 'Why are you siding with big tech against the people of this state?'" DeSantis said.
This Is the 2008 Playbook All Over Again
The banks pulled this exact move in 2008.
They built systems so large and so interconnected that when the math stopped working, they ran to Washington and got trillion-dollar bailouts – while American families lost their homes.
Now OpenAI is burning $14 billion a year, Anthropic is spending faster than it earns, and the entire AI industry is running on the theory that someone else will cover the losses when the bubble pops.
The hyperscalers – Amazon, Google, Microsoft – are planning more than $765 billion in AI capital expenditures in 2026 alone.
That is not growth.
That is a bonfire.

And when it goes cold, Sam Altman and his board will be in Washington with their hands out – just like the banks were – arguing they're too important to fail.
DeSantis is one of the few Republicans willing to say what that means for you: "AI companies should never be bailed out in the United States of America."
Trump put it differently on Truth Social – arguing the only guardrail AI needs is "a STRONG AND SMART (High IQ!) PRESIDENT."
He's not wrong that America needs to win the AI race against China.
But winning doesn't mean handing Silicon Valley a blank taxpayer check when their trillion-dollar bets go south.
DeSantis is drawing the line – and he's right to do it.
