Doctors told American parents that putting their children on puberty blockers was safe, reversible, and backed by science even though their own private meetings proved every word of that was a lie.
Now Florida is making them answer for it in court.
A judge cleared the way for Attorney General James Uthmeier to take the American Academy of Pediatrics to trial – and what comes out of that courtroom is going to be devastating.
The AAP Tried to Kill This Case From 1,000 Miles Away
Uthmeier filed suit against the American Academy of Pediatrics in December 2025 in a Florida state court.
The charges were serious: violation of Florida's Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act, the state's RICO Act, and antitrust law.
The core allegation was that the AAP mounted a deliberate campaign – targeting patients, insurers, regulators, and judges alike – to manufacture the appearance of scientific consensus around puberty blockers and childhood sex interventions.

Uthmeier's lawsuit argued the drugs and surgeries are "extremely profitable" for the AAP and its members.
That profit motive is important.
Keep it in mind.
Rather than answer those charges in Florida, the AAP ran to a federal court in Illinois – as far from Florida as they could get – and sued Uthmeier to block the case entirely.
A Clinton-appointed federal judge named Matthew Kennelly obliged.
He issued an order blocking Uthmeier from proceeding in Florida – calling the AG's case "weak" from 1,000 miles away, without ever letting Florida courts weigh in.
Uthmeier appealed.
Twenty-seven other state attorneys general backed him, warning that allowing blue-state federal judges to veto red-state enforcement actions would hand Washington's liberal judiciary a veto over every conservative AG in the country.
The 7th Circuit Saw Through the Forum-Shopping
Monday, the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals lifted Kennelly's blocking order.
The AAP – facing a potentially historic ruling against them – had already moved to drop their federal case entirely in July.

With the Illinois case gone and the injunction lifted, Uthmeier's Florida lawsuit can now proceed.
Uthmeier didn't waste any time signaling what comes next.
"@AmerAcadPeds must be held accountable for deceiving parents about the safety of transgender procedures on kids," he wrote on X, "and that is exactly what we are going to do."
DeSantis posted one word: "Good."
Then he added: "Important for the 7th Circuit to exercise some adult supervision."
What Florida Is Actually Going to Prove
The AAP published its key policy statement in 2018, claiming puberty blockers are "reversible" and that gender-affirming care produces fewer mental health concerns in minors.
Then their own doctors told the truth – in private.
In a 2022 WPATH certification seminar that was later leaked, one of their certified pediatric endocrinologists admitted on camera that puberty blockers permanently affect bone development.
He described puberty as "the time of putting calcium into your piggy bank" – and explained that blockers slow that accumulation down to prepubertal levels.
Children who go through that window on blockers never get that calcium back.
The UK, Sweden, Finland, and Norway have all sharply restricted or abandoned these treatments after independent government reviews found no reliable evidence of benefit – and significant evidence of harm.
The Trump Administration's HHS reached the same conclusion in its May 2025 evidence review: these interventions are not safe or effective for children with gender dysphoria.
The AAP reaffirmed its 2018 statement in 2023 and still hasn't retracted a word.

Florida is about to force them to defend that position under oath, with real penalties waiting if they can't.
Here's what the AAP doesn't want you thinking about: their guidelines have been cited in courtrooms across the country for years as proof that these interventions represent standard medical care.
Every custody fight where a father tried to protect his child from this.
Every state legislature steamrolled by appeals to "expert consensus."
Every parent who trusted their pediatrician because the AAP said it was safe.
If Uthmeier proves those guidelines were built on knowing deception – and a leaked video of their own doctors admitting the truth in private suggests he will – then the American Academy of Pediatrics doesn't just lose a lawsuit.
They lose the authority they used to do this to American kids in the first place.
