A couple of kids in Florida were looking forward to a day of fishing.
Everything went wrong in a hurry.
And a pair of kids fishing in Florida ran into a scary woman who made this awful decision.
Woman threatens kids with a pellet gun while fishing
Two boys went fishing at a pond in Melbourne, Florida when they suddenly found themselves being threatened by an unhinged woman.
Donna Marie Elkins, a 59-year-old, was convinced that the pond the boys were fishing in was on her property.
She took a pellet gun and ordered the 13-year-old and a 15-year-old to lie on the ground.
Elkins called 911 and told the dispatcher that the boys were “petrified” and that she “stopped them and they were laying on the ground.”
The police affidavit said that she held them on the ground at gunpoint for five minutes until her husband came out and took the pellet gun from her.
“If someone goes in your backyard, you can blow their f***king heads off. I have a right to protect my property and my house,” Elkins raged.
The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office arrived on the scene and discovered that the boys had been fishing 30 feet from Elkins’ property.
Florida woman pays a steep price for threatening kids
Elkins was the one who called 911 but she ended up getting arrested by sheriff’s deputies.
She was arrested on two charges of false imprisonment and two charges of aggravated assault.
The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office said that neither of the boys were hurt in the encounter.
Mike Jones, the father of one of the boys, was horrified as he saw the situation unfold after his son contacted him on his iPhone.
“I actually could hear it all via FaceTime … I was trying to talk my son through it,” Jones said.
“I told him just do what she was telling you,” Jones continued. “The scariest thing is knowing that your son is in immediate harm and you’re watching it. There was a moment when she said that she would ‘blow their brains out.’ It was just hard to watch.”
Brayden, a 15-year-old, thought that Elkins was holding a real gun during the encounter.
“In my head, it was a real gun,” Brayden said. “That she was going to shoot us and kill us and the fact that she was saying she was going to blow our heads off, you can’t do that with a pellet gun. I really thought it was real. What she did was wrong.”
Elkins blamed the situation on homeless people she claimed were wandering onto her property.
“One of these kids had walked up to my screened-in enclosure. It looked like he was carrying something black, but it turned out to be a cast (on his arm),” Elkins claimed.
“I’ve been judged so badly, lied on. People are just ripping me apart. I feel horrible but I was freaked out. We’ve had homeless people back here. And we do have a sign out that says no fishing,” Elkins said. “I’m extremely sorry but I wouldn’t be walking in anybody’s back yard in today’s world.”
Jones wanted to see Elkins brought to justice so this situation would never happen again.
“I mean, I’m not trying not to be angry, I’m trying to shift my feelings more to finding a resolution,” Jones explained. “He’s a sweet kid. He was blessed enough to walk away unharmed but what happens when the next kid doesn’t have the same manners that he did? I just want to make sure this doesn’t happen to another kid.”
