Florida agents caught a drug lord mid-shipment with 40 kilos of cocaine on a freight pallet in front of him.
That shipment was just one of dozens.
Here is what they found when they kept pulling the thread.
Operation Icebreaker Tears Apart a Three-County Drug Empire
Attorney General James Uthmeier stood in Palm Beach on Monday and announced what it actually looks like when law enforcement fights back.
Operation Icebreaker – the joint multi-agency investigation that launched in March 2026 – tore apart a cocaine and fentanyl trafficking ring that had spread across Palm Beach, St. Lucie, and Broward counties.
Twenty-five defendants were charged.
More than 20 search warrants were executed.

19 are already in custody after a weekend of raids.
The rest are being hunted.
This wasn't some street-corner operation.
The ringleader, Ariel Fernandez-Alonso, told investigators he was receiving 50 to 60 kilograms of cocaine every 15 days.
Agents intercepted one delivery as Fernandez-Alonso and his crew began breaking down a pallet containing more than 40 kilograms of cocaine hidden inside a commercial freight shipment.
They were using legitimate trucking companies – the carriers had no idea – to move multi-kilogram packages across state lines from California.
The cocaine was already here in your communities before anyone knew to look.
The Numbers They Seized and What They Tell You
Law enforcement pulled the following out of South Florida neighborhoods when they executed those warrants:
At least 45 kilograms of powdered cocaine, 84 grams of fentanyl, 2.5 pounds of methamphetamine, 14 pounds of marijuana, and oxycodone and fentanyl pills.
Sixteen firearms – five rifles and 11 handguns – including one that was stolen.
Fernandez-Alonso now faces trafficking charges for cocaine quantities between 400 grams and 150 kilograms, a first-degree felony.
If prosecutors hit the mandatory minimum, he's looking at 15 years.
Co-defendants Richard Paterniti, Kenneth Charles, Craig Benard, Jerri Kitzelman, and Jerry Salerno face racketeering, drug trafficking, and communications violations.
Same mandatory minimum.
Fifteen years, minimum, for flooding your communities with poison.
"This joint operation dismantled a sophisticated criminal enterprise that was pumping dangerous drugs into Palm Beach, St. Lucie, and Broward County communities," Uthmeier said.
Florida Is Actually Winning This Fight – Here's the Proof
This is where Florida breaks from every Democrat-run state in the country.
Since Uthmeier took office in February 2025, his Statewide Prosecutors have secured 1,359 years of total prison sentences for drug traffickers.
That's an 83% increase over the previous comparable period.
Fentanyl trafficking prosecutions are up 500%.
Fentanyl-related encounters statewide have dropped by more than 80%.
Fatal overdoses have dropped nearly 50%.
That's not a press release.
That's Florida families not burying their kids.
Florida's SAFE program – State Assistance for Fentanyl Eradication, funded by the Legislature – is why this happened.
Since the SAFE program launched in 2023, law enforcement has seized nearly 300 kilograms of fentanyl, 400 kilograms of cocaine, 200 kilograms of methamphetamine, $6 million in cash, and more than 1,000 firearms, resulting in more than 3,000 arrests statewide.
Compare that to California – where the drugs in this case originated – where fentanyl flows freely, prosecutions are a punchline, and progressive prosecutors spend their time releasing traffickers, not jailing them.
Operation Icebreaker isn't a one-off.
In July, Uthmeier announced 49 arrests in a five-county fentanyl sweep in the Daytona area under a follow-up investigation dubbed Operation Icebreaker II.
In February, he arrested 51 people tied to a Valentine Bloods gang affiliate running a fentanyl and meth network from California into Central Florida.
Every single case – same supply chain, same state, same refusal to stop it at the source.
Florida is cleaning up California's mess, and Uthmeier is making traffickers pay for it one mandatory minimum sentence at a time.
