Amadette Longin gave her nephew a place to stay.
That act of family kindness – the kind any decent aunt would offer – is what put her in the path of a man Joe Biden's government had no business releasing onto American streets.
Joe Biden freed a Haitian illegal alien and this Florida woman just paid for it with her life.
What Biden's Open Border Looked Like at 2:54 a.m. in Lehigh Acres
Whycliff Longin, 28, entered the United States illegally through Florida in 2024.
Border agents caught him.
The Biden administration released him anyway.
That decision – made by bureaucrats following Alejandro Mayorkas's catch-and-release orders – is what allowed Longin to settle into Lee County, seek asylum, and move in with the aunt who trusted him.
On August 27, at 2:54 in the morning, Lee County deputies responded to a domestic disturbance call at a duplex on Haviland Avenue South in Lehigh Acres.
Longin's cousin woke up to his hands around her throat.
She broke free.
She locked herself in the bathroom and called 911.
When deputies arrived, they found Whycliff Longin at the duplex next door – and Amadette Longin's lifeless body inside the home where she had given him shelter.
Longin now faces charges of murder, attempted murder, sexual battery, and burglary with battery.
ICE lodged a detainer the same day he was arrested.
Two years too late.
DHS Secretary Mullin Put the Blame Exactly Where It Belongs
DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin didn't hedge.
"This dangerous illegal alien should have never been allowed into our country in the first place," Mullin said in a statement Wednesday. "If it weren't for the Biden administration's reckless open-border policies, Amadette Longin would still be alive."
That's not a talking point.
That's what catch-and-release actually means – except instead of an abstract policy debate, this time there's a woman who won't be coming home.

Sheriff Carmine Marceno put illegal aliens on notice in Florida.
"You can run from our deputies but you can't run from the accountability. You can run into darkness but you can't hide from the truth. And if you commit a violent crime in this community, we will come after you with every resource we have available to us," Marceno said.
The Same Sequence That Killed Laken Riley Just Killed Amadette Longin
Laken Riley was murdered by Jose Ibarra – a Venezuelan illegal alien Biden released in 2022.
Rachel Morin, a Maryland mother of five, was ra*ed and murdered by an illegal alien from El Salvador who had been released into American communities.
A Virginia mother was killed by a Salvadoran illegal alien Customs and Border Protection arrested at the border in April 2024 – and then released.
Every single one of those cases followed the same sequence: Border Patrol catches them, Biden's DHS releases them, an American pays with their life.
The Biden administration released Ibarra the day after he was caught, citing "urgent humanitarian reasons."

They released hundreds of thousands of Haitians into the interior under expanded temporary protected status programs – shielding people from deportation to a country they called too dangerous.
They chose to protect the migrants from Haiti.
Nobody made the same calculation for Amadette Longin.
Mullin's ICE has now lodged a detainer to ensure Longin never walks free again.
That's what Trump's DHS looks like – consequences, detainers, and a secretary who calls a murderer a murderer.
Mayorkas called it "humanitarian relief."
Tell that to Amadette's family.
