Ron DeSantis delivered one victory for Florida that left Gavin Newsom seeing red

Florida and California are headed in two separate directions under the leadership of the Governors.

Now a clear winner is emerging in this red state versus blue state showdown.

And Ron DeSantis delivered one victory for Florida that left Gavin Newsom seeing red.

Ron DeSantis serves commuters $42 million in toll relief

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis announced that drivers in the Sunshine State would save $42 million during the first month of the toll relief program he implemented this year.

Drivers using Florida SunPass, the state’s prepaid electronic toll system, would receive a 50% credit to their account if they had at least 35 transactions.

“We are on track for another great year of significant relief for Florida commuters,” DeSantis said.

“I am proud to offer these savings to Florida’s families, enabling them to retain more of their hard-earned money during times of persistent high inflation caused by Washington,” DeSantis added.

This was the second year in a row that Florida was able to offer toll relief after the state had a budget surplus.

Last year, 1.2 million SunPass holders received nearly $500 million in credits which worked out to be about $400 per driver.

DeSantis announced the toll relief program and other tax relief for Florida families when the state had another budget surplus.

The Florida Governor has been using the budget surpluses he has had during his administration to pay down debt and to return it to taxpayers.

Florida Lieutenant Governor Jeanette Nuñez noted that this was the second year in a row the state had given taxpayers toll relief.

“What started as a successful SunPass Savings Program has turned into a Toll Relief Program for a second year in a row, further reinforcing our state’s commitment to offering direct, immediate relief to Florida’s families,” Nunez said. “This support goes a long way for commuters, and I am proud to stand alongside Governor DeSantis in helping Floridians get this much-needed relief.”

Florida’s approach stands in stark contrast with California.

California facing tax increases and painful budget cuts

California Governor Gavin Newsom (D) is battling with Democrat State Legislators about how to plug a more than $40 billion budget deficit.

Despite having one of the highest tax burdens in the country, California is going broke from reckless spending and residents fleeing the state.

Newsom is proposing major cuts to law enforcement, prisons, and public safety to close the state’s budget deficit.

Florida Chief Financial Officer Jimmy Patronis told Fox News Digital the situation in California is a result of politicians not being good stewards of taxpayer money.

“What’s happening in California is just the greatest disrespect of taxpayer’s resources in the history of America,” Patronis said. “They’re in a panic. They’re in a free fall. They’re looking for money to make up this enormous budget deficit they’ve got right now.”

He noted that high crime is one of the reasons that residents are fleeing California.

California is in shambles under Gavin Newsom while Florida continues to shine under Ron DeSantis.
