Ron DeSantis Just Put Trump’s Name on 124 Miles of Florida Highway and the Left Has No Answer

Apr 17, 2026

Bobby Bowden coached Florida State to 14 straight top-five finishes and the Left still hasn't figured out how to honor greatness without turning it into a grievance.

DeSantis signed the bill Tuesday – and now Florida has a 124-mile Trump Highway and an airport named after a legend.

Here's what Florida just told the rest of the country.

Trump Highway Florida Now Runs 124 Miles Coast to Coast

State Road 80 runs 124 miles from A1A in Palm Beach County straight across the state to U.S. 41 in Lee County.

Every mile of it is now President Donald J. Trump Highway.

This isn't a stretch of road near Mar-a-Lago.

This is a coast-to-coast artery through the heart of Florida – the same road that cuts through Hendry County farm country, follows the southern edge of Lake Okeechobee, and runs through communities that voted for Trump by 30 points.

Senate Bill 628 expands a 2025 designation that only covered four miles of Southern Boulevard near Mar-a-Lago.

Florida decided four miles wasn't enough.

The same bill renamed Tallahassee International Airport the Bobby Bowden Tallahassee International Airport – honoring the man who turned FSU into a dynasty from 1976 to 2009.

Two national championships.

Twelve ACC titles.

Fourteen consecutive top-five finishes.

State Sen. Corey Simon played defensive line for Bowden's 1999 national championship team.

He stood at that signing and said what anyone who played for Bowden already knew – the man built leaders, not just linebackers.

"Coach was what he did part-time," Simon said. "Who he was full-time was Bobby."

Bowden's daughter, state attorney Ginger Bowden Madden, said the family is proud her father's legacy will live on at the airport where his teams were welcomed home by crowds of fans at 1 and 2 in the morning after away games in the '80s and '90s.

DeSantis Signs SB 628 and Delivers a Road a Year Early

The bill signing happened the same day DeSantis announced the Capital Circle project in Tallahassee will open in May – a full year ahead of schedule.

A government infrastructure project finishing a year early.

The $63.5 million expansion takes Capital Circle Southwest from one lane each direction to three, creating a six-lane loop designed to cut congestion and serve as an evacuation corridor for the airport.

This is the Moving Florida Forward initiative – launched in 2023 to accelerate infrastructure during Florida's population boom – delivering actual results.

Not press releases.

Roads, finished early.

The same bill honored three U.S. Navy sailors killed in the 2019 terrorist attack at Naval Air Station Pensacola with a Warrior Sacrifice Way designation in Escambia County.

Mohammed Sameh Haitham, Joshua Kaleb Watson, and Cameron Scott Walters.

Their names belong on Florida's roads.

DeSantis made it happen.

Bobby Bowden Airport and Trump Highway Are Now Florida's Welcome Sign

Reagan's name went on Washington National Airport in 1998 – while he was still alive, over the objections of Democrats who called it "setting a terrible precedent."

Forty million passengers a year fly through Reagan National now.

Nobody remembers the Democrats who voted against it.

Trump already has the Kennedy Center, the U.S. Institute of Peace, Palm Beach International Airport, a class of Navy warships, and his signature going on U.S. currency.

Now he has 124 miles of Florida running from the Atlantic to the Gulf.

Florida isn't doing this because it's required.

Florida is doing this because it wants to – and because it understands something that blue states will spend the next decade figuring out.

Naming matters.

When your grandkids fly into the Bobby Bowden Tallahassee International Airport and drive home on President Donald J. Trump Highway, the argument about who built Florida is already settled.

You don't win that argument with op-eds.

You win it with road signs.
