Florida used to be a battleground state.
Now Democrats are sending their most radioactive brand ambassador straight into Ashley Moody's backyard.
And Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez just told Florida that she is coming to campaign for the socialist who wants to defund the police.
The Socialist Running for Marco Rubio's Old Seat
Angie Nixon isn't just a progressive Democrat with some liberal ideas.
She is a paid-up member of the Democratic Socialists of America – an organization whose platform calls for defunding the police, opening the borders, eliminating military funding, and allowing noncitizen voting.
Those aren't Republican attack lines.
Senator Ashley Moody read the DSA platform out loud at her primary victory speech.
Nixon pulled off a stunning upset last month, beating establishment-backed Alex Vindman – a candidate with $16 million in funding – despite raising less than $1 million herself.

She won anyway.
And now she wants the Senate seat Marco Rubio vacated to become Secretary of State.
Sabato's Crystal Ball took one look at the Nixon nomination and immediately shifted the Florida race to "Safe Republican."
That's the experts' polite way of saying a self-described socialist has no business running statewide in Florida in 2026.
But AOC didn't get the memo.
What Republicans Are About to Do With This
AOC is not just any endorser.
She is the face of the Democratic left, a potential 2028 presidential candidate, and the single most effective Republican fundraising tool since Nancy Pelosi retired.
Every dollar AOC raises for Nixon comes with a matching Republican counter-donation somewhere in Florida.
When asked if she would campaign for Nixon and congressional candidate Pia Dandiya – whom a reporter described as "the AOC of Florida" – Ocasio-Cortez said she was "always open to wherever people want me to be."
Republicans have spent months tying Nixon to the DSA platform.
Nixon spent weeks after her primary trying to distance herself from it – clashing so loudly with Florida Democrat Party chair Nikki Fried that sources reported both women yelling at each other on a post-primary phone call.

Fried warned that Nixon's DSA membership was handing Republicans a weapon.
Nixon told her to stop gaslighting.
Now AOC is flying in to hand Republicans the whole arsenal.
Florida Already Gave Democrats the Answer
Florida voters answered the socialist question in 2022, 2020, and 2018.
Republicans hold every single statewide office.
They have a 1.3 million voter registration advantage.
Donald Trump won Florida by 13 points in 2024 – the biggest margin in decades.
The one Democrat who nearly cracked this state in recent memory – Andrew Gillum in 2018 – ran as a progressive and lost by a hair.
He was not a DSA card-carrier calling to defund the police and open the border.
Nixon is not Gillum.
Florida is not a hair away from anything.
Here's what Democrats just did.
They nominated a self-described socialist in a state Trump won by double digits.

Their own party chair screamed at her to distance herself from the DSA.
The experts immediately moved the race to "Safe Republican."
And now the most unpopular politician in Florida is flying down to put her arm around the candidate and smile for cameras.
Ashley Moody doesn't need opposition research.
AOC is doing it for her.
