Donald Trump has built one of the most unique political coalitions in recent history.
It continues to confound the Left.
And a Florida mayor had some bad news for Democrats that was music to Donald Trump’s ears.
Overwhelmingly Hispanic Florida city votes to assist with immigration enforcement
Cities in Florida are joining President Donald Trump’s fight against illegal immigration.
Nearly 83% of Doral, Florida’s population is Hispanic, but the city entered into a historic agreement with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
The South Florida city received the nickname Doralzuela because it’s home to the largest Venezuelan population in the United States.
Doral’s City Council voted unanimously to have its police department partner with ICE through the 287(g) program.
The 287(g) program allows state and local law enforcement to be deputized after training to help ICE enforce immigration law.
It acts as a force multiplier for ICE and gives them help from law enforcement who know their communities.
More than 70% of the residents of Doral were born outside the United States.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has encouraged local police departments to assist the Trump administration with immigration enforcement.
Doral Police Chief Edwin Lopez said that the agreement would allow illegal aliens in the city to be turned over to ICE.
“During investigations—especially those involving serious criminal activity—if it’s discovered that an individual is in the country illegally, that could result in additional charges,” Lopez said.
Doral Republican Mayor Christi Fraga warned illegal aliens that they will face the consequences if they stay in the United States.
“We are a community of immigrants, but not undocumented immigrants,” Fraga said. “There may be a portion, but those people do need to understand. The laws have been set and the policies have been set by this administration and they need to make a decision to inform themselves and get advice and make a decision for them and their families.”
City of immigrants upholds the law to crack down on illegal aliens
Doral Republican Vice Mayor Maureen Porras said her city was going to uphold the rule of law with the ICE agreement.
“I support this agreement because I believe it is essential to strengthening our Police Department’s ability to carry out their duties effectively and responsibly,” Porras explained. “By moving forward with this, we are ensuring that the City of Doral remains in full compliance with both state and federal mandates—an important step in maintaining public trust and upholding the rule of law.”
Porra acknowledged that some residents of Doral had concerns about the agreement, but she stressed that it wouldn’t affect legal immigrants.
Florida is leading the way nationally with more than 200 law enforcement agencies participating in the 287(g) program.
Texas is second with 73 law enforcement agencies.
ICE has less than 10,000 agents nationally focused on arresting and deporting illegal aliens.
287(g) agreements will help fulfill Trump’s goal of mass deportations.
Deportations will ramp up as more state and local law enforcement agencies nationally enter into agreements with ICE.
