Democrats are in panic mode after this plan by Ron DeSantis worked to perfection

Feb 21, 2024

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has decimated Democrats in the Sunshine State.

He is in the process of putting the backbone of their political operation out of business.

And Democrats are in panic mode after this plan by Ron DeSantis worked to perfection.

Last year, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis delivered one massive victory for conservatives after another during the Florida Legislature’s session.

A little-noticed bill from that session is sending shockwaves across the political landscape in Florida.

DeSantis signed into law SB 256, a paycheck protection bill, during the 2023 session of the Florida Legislature, which brought sweeping changes to public employee unions in the state.

The bill outlawed Florida from serving as a collection agent for unions by automatically deducting union dues from government workers’ paychecks.

Instead, government workers would have to pay their dues directly to the union.

The bill also contained a provision that required a public employee union to have at least 60% of its members paying union dues or it faces decertification.

The change keeps unions from remaining in workplaces that no longer have the support of the employees they claim to represent.

Power is returned from the Union Bosses back into the hands of workers who were forced to accept their representation when these zombie unions are decertified.

The teachers union for the Miami-Dade County school district, the largest teachers union in Florida, is now facing potential decertification because of the paycheck bill.

That drew national headlines, but it could be just the first domino to drop as public employee unions across Florida are on the verge of being wiped out under the paycheck protection law.

Local Miami PBS station, WLRN, went through hundreds of Florida public employee union recertification filings and found that dozens upon dozens of unions have been decertified and dissolved.

Many more unions are on the verge of being dissolved.

“Municipal workers in the cities of Oakland Park, High Springs, Naples, Jacksonville, Sebring, Bradenton and other governments have already had their unions fully decertified by the state,” WLRN reported. “Four separate Association of Federal State County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) bargaining units representing more than 42,000 State of Florida employees have been fully decertified.”

Public employee unions are the backbone of Democrats’ political power.

Every election cycle, they spend tens of billions of dollars to elect Democrats and run crucial get-out-the-vote operations for Democrat candidates.

University of Wisconsin labor economist Laura Dresser predicted that the paycheck protection law would lead to government employee unions becoming “less relevant” in Florida politics.

DeSantis boasted that the “Democratic Party in Florida is a hollow shell. It’s like a dead carcass on the side of the road.”

Dissolving public employee unions will ensure that the Florida Democrat Party stays dead and buried.
