California’s Gavin Newsom and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis have been taking shots at each other for the past two years.
DeSantis and Newsom faced off in a debate moderated by Sean Hannity back in November.
But Gavin Newsom just slipped up and revealed that Ron DeSantis is living rent-free in his head.
Newsom recently appeared for an interview on MSNBC’s Alex Wagner Tonight where he discussed a wide range of topics.
During a discussion on the 2024 Republican Presidential Primary, the conversation turned to Ron DeSantis’ decision to drop out of the race after Iowa.
Wagner asked Newsom if he agreed with pundits who say DeSantis ruined his political future by coming up short in the 2024 GOP Primary.
Surprisingly, Newsom told Wagner he disagreed with that claim and believes DeSantis made the right decision and may have saved his future by dropping out.
“I mean, I think if he continued on, he was gonna get trounced in his own state,” Newsom said.
Newsom brought up a video he recently watched of Ron DeSantis and his son giving his NFL playoff predictions and said the Florida Governor seemed like a “different guy.”
“Just on a humanizing level, you know, having spent a tiny bit of time with him, obviously studying him for some time, he’s a different guy,” Newsom said. “Now I saw him with his kid on a video, I’m like, ‘Who’s that guy?’”
Of course, the fact that Newsom studied DeSantis “for some time” shows how the Florida Governor spent the past two years living rent free in Newsom’s head.
Newsom said the video made him realize that DeSantis was “wound up” and “joyless” on the campaign trail.
“He seems, he was so wound up, joyless,” he said. “And you know, you can say what you want about Trump, he seems a little less wound up,” he continued. “He’s winding up in terms of his rhetoric, but a little more entertaining in that respect.”
“You have got to know your why,” Newsom added. “I never felt like he had a why.”
Newsom called it “delusional” for any Republican to believe that they ever had a shot at defeating Trump in the Primary.
“With Trump in the race, you were going to somehow try to deconstruct and connect and attach yourself to Trumpism with Trump in the race and sort of take it from him?” Newsom said. “The premise of it is rather — I don’t mean this as a cheap shot — rather delusional.”
Newsom also sent a message to Nikki Haley saying she is wasting her time and will not win a single state.
“With respect to Nikki Haley,” Newsom said, “I don’t know any state she can win, let alone her own state.”
Like a broken clock, Gavin Newsom is occasionally on the mark.
And he is certainly correct about Donald Trump having the GOP nomination in the bag.
