Ron DeSantis called for Republicans to make this big change to win in 2024

Feb 23, 2024

The GOP needs to be firing on all cylinders to win up and down the ticket in the 2024 Election.

Republicans need a big shake-up if they want to be in the winner’s circle.

And Ron DeSantis called for Republicans to make this big change to win in 2024.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis traveled to South Carolina before the state’s Primary to meet with state legislators.

He spoke to reporters about the state of the Primary and the Republican National Committee (RNC).

RNC chairwoman Rona Romney McDaniel is reportedly going to be replaced after the South Carolina Primary.  The replacement was primarily caused by the GOP having a series of disappointing election cycles under her leadership.

Former President Donald Trump has endorsed North Carolina Republican Party Chair Michael Whatley to lead the RNC and his daughter-in-law Lara Trump to serve as co-chair.

DeSantis said that he was “proven right” about his earlier criticisms of McDaniel leading the RNC.

The Florida Governor opposed her re-election as RNC chair in early 2023 after the expected “Red Wave” in the Midterm Elections fizzled out.

“I don’t know, to be honest with you, I’m not familiar with Mr. Whatley,” DeSantis said. “I’ve met Lara Trump too, but I don’t know as much there.”

“But after the Midterms of 2022, I said you need to make changes, not for any personal reason because of getting along or not getting along, but when you lose election cycle after election cycle, at some point, you got to try something different,” DeSantis added.

DeSantis supported lawyer and California GOP official Harmeet Dhillon as RNC chair in 2023.

He said that not every campaign that the GOP loses is the RNC’s “fault”, but the results weren’t there for McDaniel.

“But in 2018, we lost the House in resounding fashion. 2020 obviously, we lost the presidency and the U.S. Senate. 2022: We should have had a massive red wave that crashed and burned, barely won the House,” DeSantis said. “You can’t just keep rewarding if the performance isn’t there.”

DeSantis added that the GOP Primary between Trump and former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley dragging on was only helping Democrats at this point.

“Democrats are sitting on a lot of money,” DeSantis said. “They’ve raised, I think, more up to this point than any incumbent president has raised.”

“They’ve made $250 million in reservations for Super PACs already. And this is January, February of the election year. There’s going to be a deluge more coming in,” DeSantis added. “So, I just think as Republicans, the RNC is basically broke. We need to get our act together and start focusing on having the resources.”

A change at the RNC is the first step to making sure the GOP is ready for a knock-down, drag-out brawl in November’s election.
