DeSantis introduced fierce new legislation that left thieves running scared

Feb 21, 2024

Governor Ron DeSantis is letting everyone know if they commit a crime in Florida, the consequences are steep.

Thugs and lawbreakers were shocked once they learned what DeSantis had up his sleeve.

And now DeSantis introduced fierce new legislation that left thieves running scared.

Cracking down on retail theft

Leftist Governors are destroying their states with their failed soft-on-crime policies.

And while thieves may bankrupt small businesses and run wild in liberal utopias, DeSantis is determined to protect the Sunshine State.

In fact, DeSantis introduced new legislation in Florida making it a first-degree felony to commit theft with a firearm.

Under his proposal, crooks that have two or more earlier convictions will also face the same fate.

And in Florida, a first-degree felony includes fines up to $10,000 and up to 30 years in prison.

Talk about a steep punishment and an effective deterrent!

While Los Angeles and Washington D.C. continue to turn a blind eye to crooks, DeSantis claims retail theft has decreased by 30 percent since he took office, Fox News reported.

Holding thieves accountable

DeSantis released a press release warning thieves if they steal in Florida, they will pay the price.

“If you commit a crime in Florida, you are going to be held accountable,” said DeSantis.

He continued, “We will not tolerate retail crime, porch pirates and the lawlessness that they allow in California and New York.”

Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody backed up DeSantis and said, “Florida is a law-and-order state, and we take action when we see concerning crime trends that could harm Floridians.”

“We are leaders in the fight against organized retail theft, and I’m thrilled to stand with Governor DeSantis today to continue our goal of stopping theft by supporting legislation to stamp out porch piracy,” Moody added.

Keeping Floridians safe

As Governor, DeSantis has proven time and time again he will do whatever necessary to keep Floridians safe.

Allowing thieves to run free and rob local businesses only leads to lost income and higher store prices for families.

But under this proposed legislation, crooks will learn quickly their previous tactics will no longer work.

Florida Department of Law Enforcement Commissioner Mark Glass is thrilled with how DeSantis is handling crime and said, “Governor DeSantis continues to strengthen Florida laws to fight organized retail theft, cracking down on the kind of professional shoplifting that we’ve seen plague other states.”

Glass added, “He is ensuring Florida will stay safe for families, prosperous for our businesses and a paradise for our visitors.”

And with people fleeing Leftist states like California in droves and making Florida their new home, it looks like DeSantis’ tough-on-crime policies are working.
