Ron DeSantis is getting ahead of the latest threat staring down the Sunshine State.

Now he is stepping up while the federal government is missing in action.

And Ron DeSantis unveiled one plan to secure Florida’s border that sent Democrats into a frenzy.

The crisis in the crime-ravaged country of Haiti, in the Caribbean, has the country on the brink of collapse.

Heavily armed gangs have taken control of as much as 90% of the capital city of Port-au-Prince.

Currently, the political turmoil and surging violence have left the country at serious risk of famine.

Florida could be hit with a massive influx of Haitians trying to flee the chaos.

Ron DeSantis wants a new tool to crack down on illegal immigration

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is being proactive in preparing the Sunshine State for waves of illegal aliens from Haiti landing on its shores.

During an appearance on Sean Hannity’s radio show, he floated the idea of calling a special session of the Florida Legislature to crack down on illegal immigration from Haiti.

“I’m working with folks to craft, if there’s something we can do in a Special Legislative Session, to give our law enforcement more authority to arrest and detain, because I think that will be a huge disincentive for people to come if we can do it,” DeSantis said.

That is why the Florida Governor said he would like to see a law passed by the Legislature modeled after Texas Senate Bill 4.

“This Texas law, I think, could be a model for other states if the courts end up upholding it,” DeSantis said.

Texas Senate Bill 4

Texas Governor Greg Abbott signed Texas Senate Bill 4 into law last year but it has been in limbo because of legal challenges from the Biden administration and left-wing activist groups.

The law gave state and local law enforcement the authority to arrest illegal aliens for illegally crossing the border, and if convicted, they could be returned to ports of entry into the U.S.

DeSantis has already started to prepare for a potential influx of Haitians by launching Operation Vigilant Sentry, which is designed to interdict them at sea before they can land in Florida.

That operation has seen 250 Florida State Guard, National Guard, and law enforcement members deploy to the Florida Keys along with planes, boats, and drones to deter Haitians from arriving by boat.

The Florida Governor also told Hannity about the challenges of conducting rescue missions into Haiti to evacuate stranded Americans compared to flying Americans out of Israel last year after the October 7 terrorist attack.

“I think with Haiti, given the situation, it’s much more dicey and just kind of day-to-day because you have gangs ruling the street. In Israel, you may have to dodge Hamas. But around Israeli authorities, you know, you’re going to be safe,” DeSantis said.

Ron DeSantis is getting ahead of the curve with the threat of a mass migration of Haitians looming.
