The Max docuseries Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV exposed the horrific treatment of child actors at the Nickelodeon cable network.
Comedian Bill Maher mentioned the show during his opening monologue on his HBO show Real Time.
He noted that while he does not have any children, he has to step up and defend them because that’s the responsibility of adults.
“Have you all been watching the Max documentary called Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV? OMG. Nickelodeon? It wasn’t a studio, it was Neverland Ranch with craft services,” Maher said.
The series revealed the sexual abuse and awful workplace conditions the network’s child actors suffered through.
“It is just scene after scene, clip after clip of the child stars of their day being subjected to obviously inappropriate, highly sexualized degradation . . .” Maher added.
Maher calls out the Left for their hypocrisy in Ron DeSantis’ fight against Disney
The mercurial comedian pointed out that the docuseries also exposed the massive hypocrisy on the Left.
“So, I don’t know if this documentary is the talk of your town, but it is out here because it didn’t just expose a dangerous workplace, it also exposed hypocrisy,” Maher said. “Because, it must be pointed out that when the evil governor of Florida was saying the exact same thing about kids and creepy stuff at Disney that liberals now find intolerable at Nickelodeon, he was dismissed as a hick and a bigot.”
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis was relentlessly attacked by Disney and the Left for trying to protect kids from being sexualized with his parental rights bill that banned students in grades K-3 from being taught about radical gender ideologies and sexual orientation.
Disney, which pushed radical gender ideologies and other extreme LGBT content on kids, suffered from many of the same disturbing problems as Nickelodeon.
“A 2014 CNN report discovered that at least 35 Disney employees had been arrested for sex crimes against children,” Maher continued. “And in 2021, Disney child star Alyson Stoner confessed she only narrowly survived the toddler-to-trainwreck pipeline. The next year, child star Cole Sprouse told The New York Times that young actresses at the Disney Channel were heavily sexualized from an early age.”
Maher left Democrats watching his showing aghast when he said that DeSantis got the issue right.
“DeSantis wasn’t wrong!” Maher exclaimed. “But we’re so tribal now, the Left will overlook child-f***ing if the guy from the wrong party calls it out.”
Ron DeSantis is belatedly getting his due for trying to protect Florida’s children and let them be kids.
