DeSantis dropped the hammer on stalkers and predators with his latest move

May 6, 2024

Florida predators have terrorized innocent people for far too long.

And Governor Ron DeSantis is fed up.

In his latest move, DeSantis dropped the hammer on stalkers and predators and sent the ultimate warning.

No tolerance for stalking

With technology, stalkers have found new and innovative ways to keep track of their victims.

Instead of “waiting in a bush with binoculars,” predators now use tracking devices like Apple AirTags to harass and keep track of their target.

Many people caught in domestic violence escape from their abuser only to find out later that their whereabouts were monitored by their abuser.

And just when these victims thought they were finally free, they learned their lives were still in danger by those who wanted to cause harm or exert control.

But stalkers have met their match with DeSantis.

And now, anyone who monitors another person without their explicit consent will face the ultimate price.

There are exceptions of course such as a parent tracking a minor child, or a caretaker ensuring the safety of an elderly person or an adult with a disability.

But for everyone else, the heat has just been turned up.

A third-degree felony

In the past, if a hidden tracking device was found the penalty was only a second-degree misdemeanor.

But this slap on the wrist was not steep enough to deter bad actors, so Florida upped the punishment.

Legislation unanimously passed both the Florida House and Senate making it a third-degree felony to “use a tracking device or tracking application to determine the location or movement of another person or another person’s property without that person’s consent.”

A third-degree felony in Florida can land a person five years in prison.

Bam.

DeSantis is tough on crime

For far too long, predators and crooks thought they could do whatever they want and get away with it.

And with leftist Governors in other states backing crooks instead of law enforcement officers, it is no wonder why bad guys run wild.

But while liberal hellholes may allow thugs and criminals to flourish, DeSantis will not tolerate crooks in the Sunshine State.

Across the board the penalties and punishment for bad actors continues to increase.

Porch pirates in Florida who steal packages valued at more than $40 also face a third-degree felony.

And while leftist utopias like New York City slashed their police budget by $1 billion, Florida increased funding for law enforcement.

There is a reason Florida is crushing every other state in the area of public safety.

While bad guys will always be bad guys and not follow the law, at least in Florida they will be held accountable and do time when they break the law.
