Florida Democrats think DeSantis is determined to silence the minority vote.
So, they filed a bogus lawsuit in the Florida courts hoping to gain more power.
And now woke liberals are grasping at straws to undo DeSantis’ latest victory.
Democrats cry discrimination
Democrats insist DeSantis’ new redistricting map violates Florida’s constitution by diminishing minorities ability to “elect representatives of their choice.”
Essentially, they are angry Florida Republicans picked up Congressional District 5 because of DeSantis’ redistricting map. So, now, they think he is a racist.
But a Florida appellate court previously shot down the Left’s latest accusation of discrimination.
In the main opinion, Judges Adam Tanenbaum and Brad Thomas wrote “At its heart, the plaintiffs’ claim is based on a false premise … that minority voters living hundreds of miles apart in totally different communities, not joined in any reasonably configured geographically area, are entitled to proportional representation merely because they were once included together in former CD-5 (Congressional District 5) by court order for three election cycles,” reported CBS News.
“Without common interests and a shared history and socioeconomic experience, it is not a community that can give rise to a cognizable right protected by the FDA (Fair Districts Amendment). In other words, it is the community that must have the power, not a district manufactured for the sole purpose of creating voting power,” the opinion added.
Florida Supreme Court will decide
The Florida Supreme Court agreed to hear the redistricting battle and will now determine if the map violates Florida’s Constitution.
And while Democrats hoped the Florida Supreme Court would make a decision before the 2024 congressional election, it is unlikely.
Democrats are furious but they are not giving up the fight just yet.
NAACP files a federal lawsuit
In addition to the battle in Florida, the NAACP and other civil rights groups have filed a federal lawsuit claiming intentional racial discrimination.
The plaintiff’s claim Florida’s newly drawn Congressional District 5 violates the U.S. Constitution’s 14th and 15th Amendment.
A three judge panel heard the argument, but they have yet to issue a ruling.
The Left always claims racism
Whenever Democrats do not get their way, they insist everything comes down to race when nothing could be further from the truth.
There is a reason a Florida appellate court ruled that DeSantis’ redistricting map was constitutional.
But Democrats in Florida are determined to take down Ron DeSantis, however they can, and gain control of Florida, so they are more than happy to clog the courts up with bogus lawsuits.
DeSantis is a force to be reckoned with, so if Democrats think they can take him down they better be ready to fight until the very end.
