Ron DeSantis drew a line in the sand against this attack on history by the woke outrage mob

The Left is trying to lead a cultural revolution against American society.

They want to purge the country’s history of its founding principles.

And Ron DeSantis drew a line in the sand against this attack on history by the woke outrage mob.

Controversy erupted in Jacksonville, Florida when the city’s Democrat mayor illegally ignored the city council to remove a “Women of the Southern Confederacy” statute from a city-owned park.

Targeting Confederate statues and monuments has proven to be the first step toward eventually removing the Founding Fathers and erasing all American history.

A member of the transition team for the Jacksonville mayor admitted that a statue of President Andrew Jackson, the city’s namesake, was next on the chopping block.

A member of the Florida Legislature decided to take a stand after the Jacksonville controversy by introducing a bill to protect all historical monuments and memorials in the state.

Republican State Senator Jonathan Martin introduced the Historical Monuments and Memorials Protection Act, and a companion bill was filed in the State House.

“Accurate history belongs to all Floridians in perpetuity,” Martin said. “And accurate and factual history belongs to all Floridians and future generations.”

Local governments would be prohibited from removing a monument or a memorial by the bill unless it was for an infrastructure project, in which case it would be required to be returned to its original location within 12 months of completion.

The bill states that it would stop local government officials who “may be swayed by undue influence by groups who may feel offended or hurt by certain actions in the history of the state or the nation” from removing a historic monument or memorial.

Violators of the proposed law would face a civil fine of up to $1,000 or the cost of removing the memorial or monument, whichever is greater.

“The goal is to protect Floridian and American history,” Martin said. “So however we can do that, I believe is the goal of the bill.”

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis said at a press conference in Jacksonville that he has been “very clear” that he does not support local governments taking down monuments.

“We’ve gotta stop with this, okay?” DeSantis said. “You know, it’s like, you learn from history. When they’ll say ‘oh well, we just, they just didn’t want some Civil War general or whatever.’ And then now, that’s turned into taking down Thomas Jefferson, and Teddy Roosevelt, and Lincoln, taking Washington’s name off schools.”

“That is, it is nuts and so I’ve just said no, we’re not gonna support removing any monuments or taking down any statues,” DeSantis added.

The Florida governor said that he has not seen the details of the proposed bill, but that it is a common sense move by the legislature.

“I heard people in Jacksonville wanna take down Andrew Jackson,” DeSantis said. “What are we gonna rename the city? I mean, come on, we’ve gotta stop doing this.”

The Left will not stop with their purge of historical figures unless conservative state governments put their foot down.
