Charlie Crist just ruined any chance of becoming Florida’s next Governor by promising to take one controversial action on his first day in office

Charlie Crist is the top Democrat running for the opportunity to take on Ron DeSantis in November.

Even though Crist has a big lead over his Democrat opponents, polls show Ron DeSantis handily defeating him in a hypothetical head-to-head matchup.

But now he just ruined any chance of becoming Florida’s next Governor by promising to take one controversial action on his first day in office.

After he narrowly defeated Andrew Gillum by just 0.4% of the vote in 2018, Democrats were hopeful of their chances of making sure DeSantis was only a one-term Governor.

But since his election in 2018, Ron DeSantis has gained national fame for his aggressive battle against Anthony Fauci and Biden’s COVID tyranny during the pandemic, as well as his willingness to take on the woke Left.

Charlie Crist and Agricultural Commissioner Nikki Fried are the top two Democrats running for the Party’s nomination in the upcoming August Primary.

Crist, who previously served as a Republican Governor of Florida, is on path to defeat Fried and get the opportunity to take on DeSantis this fall.

One of the problems Crist faces is convincing the left-wing base of the Democrat Party that even though he spent years as a Republican, he is now a tried-and-true member of the radical Left.

Crist attacked DeSantis over the Parental Rights in Education Bill, over legislation he signed banning abortion in Florida after 15 weeks, and for his opposition to COVID mandates and lockdowns in effort to gain favor with the Left.

But Charlie Crist just went too far in his effort to appease the Left and boost his fundraising numbers by promising to issue an Executive Order on his first day in office banning so-called “assault weapons.”

“Yes I will.” Crist replied when reporter Glenna Milberg asked if he would ban so-called “assault weapons.”

Of course, aside from the fact that the majority of Floridians are strong supporters of the Second Amendment, there is another major problem with Crist’s promise to ban “assault weapons.”

Governors do not have the authority to issue an Executive Order banning an entire class of weapons.

In order to ban “assault weapons” in Florida, Crist would have to convince the state legislature to pass a “carefully designed statute” to ensure it did not infringe on Constitutional rights.

But that will never happen.

Charlie Crist already faced a difficult task in uprooting a popular Governor like Ron DeSantis.

And his rush to appease the radical Left won’t help him win over any voters in the Sunshine State.
