Joe Biden forced an illegal vaccine mandate on millions of Americans during the pandemic.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis responded by making vaccine mandates illegal.
And now Ron DeSantis just proved there will be a severe price to pay for mandating COVID vaccines in Florida.
In November of 2021, Ron DeSantis called for a special session of the legislature to protect Florida workers from losing their jobs over Joe Biden’s vaccine mandate and to protect parental rights over their children’s healthcare.
DeSantis signed the legislation into law on November 18.
The law prohibits employers, government entities, and educational institutions from mandating the COVID-19 vaccine on their premises.
“I told Floridians that we would protect their jobs and today we made that the law,” DeSantis said at the time.
But the law extends beyond just prohibiting vaccine mandates.
The law also specifically states that “employers who violate these employee health protections will be fined.”
Small businesses with 99 employees or less face $10,000 per employee violation and medium to big businesses face $50,000 per employee violation.
And now, one news organization in Florida is finding out that Ron DeSantis is serious about enforcing the law against vaccine mandates.
On September 8, WESH 2 News hosted a Congressional debate between Republican Scotty Moore and Democrat Darren Soto.
However, the debate was canceled after WESH 2 News refused to allow unvaccinated Floridians inside the venue.
“Today, WESH 2 Orlando canceled the debate between Darren Soto and myself for what they cited as my being unvaccinated,” Moore said in September.
Moore filed a complaint against WESH 2 News with the Florida Department of Health on September 15 over the vaccine mandate.
And on Tuesday, the Florida Department of Health sent a letter to WESH 2 News informing them of a $10,000 fine for violating the law.
“This letter is notice that WESH 2 News, CW18 WFCK, Hearst Television, Inc., (WESH-2) is assessed a $10,000.00 fine for two (2) violations of Florida Statutes,” the letter read. “The Florida Department of Health finds that WESH-2 violated the law when it prohibited two invitees from entering the WESH-2 studio and participating in a debate hosted by WESH-2 because these individuals denied having received COVID-19 vaccination.”
The Department of Health gave WESH-2 30 days to pay the fine. Ron DeSantis declared Florida an “oasis of freedom” and warned against infringing on medical freedom.
And WESH-2 News just found out he meant business.
