Former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley finally threw in the towel on her Presidential campaign after she was routed on Super Tuesday by former President Donald Trump.
Haley, the preferred candidate of the GOP establishment, Democrats, and the media, ran for President trying to take the Republican Party back to the McCain-Romney era.
Unsurprisingly, her campaign flopped with actual Republican voters during the Primary.
As a prerequisite to participate in the Republican National Committee (RNC) sanctioned debates, Haley signed a pledge to support the eventual Republican nominee.
Haley refused to commit to supporting Trump during a speech after exiting the race.
“It is now up to Donald Trump to earn the votes of those in our party and beyond it who did not support him,” Haley said in her campaign suspension speech. “I hope he does that.”
She brushed off the pledge during an NBC interview as something she did to debate.
“At the time of the debate, we had to take it where, ‘Would you support the nominee,’ and in order to get on that debate stage, you said, ‘Yes,’” Haley said. “I think I’ll make what decision I make.”
Ron DeSantis slams Haley for chasing Democrat votes
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis appeared on Newsmax where he weighed in on Haley ending her Presidential campaign.
He noted how out of touch Haley was with the modern Republican Party.
“She had waged a campaign on the idea that you can somehow win the Republican nomination for president by getting the votes of mostly just non-Republicans,” DeSantis said. “And that just doesn’t work. And we saw that play out in Iowa and I said at the time that she didn’t have a pathway. So, I’m glad we’re all through that process.”
Haley and her allies targeted Democrats and independents to vote for her in open Primaries.
Based on exit polling, a substantial number of her Primary voters were Democrats who crossed over.
DeSantis rips Haley for not honoring her word
DeSantis signed the RNC debate pledge to back the nominee and endorsed Trump when he got out of the race.
“I signed the pledge and you signed the pledge saying that you’re gonna not take your ball and go home,” DeSantis stated. “And so, I honored the pledge and she’s gonna have to make a decision about whether she wants to or not, but the idea that somehow circumstances have changed, I think we all knew what we were doing when we did that, and you gotta make a judgment about whether that’s meaningful to you.”
The Florida governor told voters during the GOP Primary that he makes a point to deliver on his promises.
“For me, I tell people, you know, if I say I’m gonna do something, I’m gonna do it,” DeSantis added.
Ron DeSantis is a man of his word and has a bright future in GOP politics while Nikki Haley’s political career in the presently constituted GOP is finished.
