The woke outrage mob is using this absurd tactic to get Ron DeSantis to back down

Mar 18, 2024

The Left is trying to pick another fight with Ron DeSantis.

They are fighting tooth and nail to keep a diversity scheme going.

And the woke outrage mob is using this absurd tactic to get Ron DeSantis to back down.

The University of Florida announced that it was eliminating its Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) office, firing its DEI staffers, and halting contracts to comply with state rules.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed a bill into law in 2023 that banned DEI initiatives at state universities.

The Florida Board of Governors, the governing body for the state university system, issued a rule that banned universities from using state or federal funding from being used for DEI at the beginning of the year.

DeSantis picked up one of his biggest wins against woke education with one of his state’s most prominent universities throwing in the towel on DEI.

“Florida is where DEI goes to die,” DeSantis said after the announcement on social media.

The Left began to try and strike back at Florida.

NAACP calls on college athletes to boycott Florida

In response to the University of Florida giving DEI the axe, the NAACP called on black athletes to boycott Florida’s public colleges and universities.

NAACP President Derrick Johnson warned black athletes about playing for Florida’s “PWIs” (predominantly white institutions).

“Florida’s rampant anti-black policies are a direct threat to the advancement of our young people and their ability to compete in a global economy,” Johnson ranted. “Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion are paramount ensuring equitable and effective educational outcomes. The value black and other college athletes bring to large universities is unmatched. If these institutions are unable to completely invest in those athletes, it’s time they take their talents elsewhere.”

The call for a boycott came after former University of Florida running back and NFL Hall of Famer Emmitt Smith said that minority athletes should “be aware and vocal about this decision.”

NAACP rages at Ron DeSantis

Johnson also decided to swing at DeSantis for his crusade against DEI.

“Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has made no effort to conceal his administration’s devaluation of black America,” Johnson said.

He added that the NAACP will be “unwavering” in trying to hold “DeSantis, and all oppressive elected officials accountable for their attempts to unravel our democracy.”

It remains to be seen if the NAACP’s boycott will have any impact but based on their previous efforts it is not likely.

The group warned that it was not safe to travel to Florida last year after DeSantis signed legislation eliminating Critical Race Theory (CRT) from school curriculum.

It turned out that the chair of the NAACP’s board, Leon Russell, lived in Florida while calling for a boycott.

This will join the lengthy list of failed attacks on Ron DeSantis and Florida.
