Parental rights became a hot-button issue over the past two years.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis made it one of the top issues of his campaign by endorsing dozens of school board candidates who pledged to defend parental rights in the classroom.
Now woke leftists are furious after this Florida GOP leader made one promise to parents about their children’s education.
School closures during the pandemic forced parents to become much more involved in their children’s daily schoolwork.
Most parents were outraged to discover the curriculum was filled with propaganda pushing the Left’s woke ideology on their children.
The outrage catapulted the issue of parental rights in education to the forefront of the national debate when parents began showing up in droves at school board meetings to voice their opposition to wokeism.
During his State of the State Address, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis vowed to make 2022 the “year of the parent.”
As a man of his word, DeSantis kept his promise and showed Republicans across the country how to fight and win against the woke Left.
DeSantis removed Critical Race Theory from the curriculum, banned biological males from participating in women’s sports, and also signed a bill prohibiting the teaching of gender and sexuality to children in kindergarten through third grade.
During the recent Midterm elections, DeSantis endorsed 30 school board candidates who all pledged to support his pro-freedom, pro-parental rights in education agenda.
On Election Day, 24 of the 30 candidates endorsed by DeSantis won their races, delivering a huge victory to parental rights in Florida.
But the battle is not over yet.
Leftist are hell-bent on stopping Ron DeSantis from restoring parental rights.
However, Republicans hold a supermajority in the State Legislature.
And GOP leaders are pledging to make defending and expanding parental rights a top priority in the next session.
State Senate President Kathleen Passidomo gave her first remarks as leader of the chamber on Thursday.
Passidomo promised that Republicans would protect family values and ensure parents were always aware of decisions involving their children at school.
Passidomo said it was “unacceptable” to keep parents in the dark when it comes to education, health, and sports.
“We have made great strides in recent years to defend and expand parental rights in education,” Passidomo said. “Moving forward, we are going to make sure that any decision that involves a minor allows the parents at the table.”
Passidomo added that “voters overwhelmingly support the conservative agenda of fiscal responsibility, protecting parental rights, honoring the dignity of work, and expanding education opportunities for our students.”
“That will drive our work for the next two years,” she concluded.
Thanks to Ron DeSantis’ bold leadership, the entire Florida GOP is now behind his fight to protect and defend parental rights in education.
