Ron DeSantis uttered four words that left rowdy spring breakers’ heads spinning

Mar 13, 2024

Florida is the top destination in the country for spring break.

Crowds of people flock to the Sunshine State to celebrate.

And Ron DeSantis uttered four words that left rowdy spring breakers’ heads spinning.

Spring break is right around the corner and that means hundreds of thousands of people will descend upon Florida looking to have an enjoyable time.

While most tourists are well-behaved during spring break, the rowdier elements have picked up a bad reputation in Florida.

Spring break Miami Beach is a war zone

Miami Beach has seen violence during spring break and was forced to declare a state of emergency and institute a curfew in 2022 after five people were shot in a weekend that year.

This year, Miami Beach is trying to keep spring breakers from coming to the city with early beach closures, curfews, DUI checkpoints, and increased police presence, among other measures.

2023’s spring break was a bigger disaster for the city, with multiple videos of the chaos going viral on social media.

“A chaotic 2023 spring break in Miami Beach saw two deadly shootings and 488 arrests, more than 230 of which were felony offenses, according to Miami Beach Police. More than 100 firearms were seized,” NBC Miami reported.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis let anyone planning on causing trouble during spring break know that they are coming to a law-and-order state.

DeSantis warns spring breakers

DeSantis held a press conference at the Miami Beach Convention Center with the city’s mayor and law enforcement officials.

He said that “we don’t welcome mayhem” in Florida.

DeSantis said that he was taking proactive measures to keep spring break from getting out of hand this year.

“We don’t welcome mayhem,” DeSantis said. “The state has a lot going on, it’s a fun place to be at and we want to see people do that, but we also are going to insist that people respect the law.”

60 Florida State troopers are being dispatched to South Florida to help deal with any potential issues that come up.

Law enforcement is also being assigned to other spring break hotspots, like Daytona Beach and Panama City Beach.

“What we don’t welcome is criminal activity. What we don’t welcome is mayhem and people that want to wreak havoc on our communities,” DeSantis said. “Make no mistake about it, if you’re coming here in order to enjoy Florida and to enjoy and have a good time, fine if you’re coming for these other reasons, if you’re committing crimes, causing havoc, you are going to pay the price.”

Ron DeSantis is making sure Floridians and tourists are safe from the mayhem that occurred in the previous spring breaks.
