Ron DeSantis was grinning from ear-to-ear over this scary number for Democrats in 2024

The biggest battle in the 2024 Election in Florida is not going to be at the top of the ticket.

Now voters will decide the outcome of a hotly contested political battle.

And Ron DeSantis was grinning from ear-to-ear over this scary number for Democrats in 2024.

Battle over the life of the unborn coming to Florida this fall

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has been diligently working to protect the life of the unborn in the Sunshine State.

He passed a 15-week abortion ban in 2022 that was blocked from going into effect after a lawsuit from Planned Parenthood, which claimed that it violated the Florida Constitution’s right to privacy.

Undeterred, DeSantis signed a heartbeat protection bill into law last year that banned abortion after six weeks.

The Florida Supreme Court ruled that abortion is not a protected right in the state constitution, which paves the way for the heartbeat bill to take effect next month.

But the abortion-on-demand industry and left-wing activists had an ace up their sleeve to overcome a potential legal setback.

The Florida Supreme Court issued a ruling on the same day as the heartbeat bill, which allowed Floridians to vote on a constitutional amendment to enshrine a right to an abortion.

Abortion trailing in the polls

To pass a constitutional amendment in Florida, it needs to receive the support of 60% of the voters on the ballot.

This is a higher threshold than other states like Ohio, Kentucky, and Kansas, which only needed a simple majority, 50% plus one.

Having a higher hurdle for the pro-abortion lobby to cross on the ballot made pro-lifers feel like they could win the fight.

But some Republicans, including former President Donald Trump, were ready to throw in the towel on defending the unborn for cowardly political reasons.

“And now the states have it, and the states are putting out what they want. It’s the will of the people. So, Florida’s probably going to change. Arizona is going to definitely change. Everybody wants that to happen. And you’re getting the will of the people. It’s been pretty amazing,” Trump said.

While the former President was predicting that the pro-abortion side was going to carry the day in Florida, the polls showed something different.

A recent USA Today/Ipsos poll found that the abortion amendment was falling short of the 60% threshold needed to pass.

Only half of the 1,000 Floridians surveyed said they would vote in favor of enshrining abortion on demand into the Florida Constitution.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is leading the opposition to it and predicted that once voters understood how extreme it was, it would fail.

“Once voters figure out how radical both of those are, they are going to fail,” DeSantis said. “They are very, very extreme.”
