Democrats despise Ron DeSantis for his refusal to follow Joe Biden and Anthony Fauci’s tyrannical rules and mandates during the pandemic.
But their hatred of DeSantis is about to increase even more.
And now the radical Left is in disarray over the election integrity package Republicans are preparing to send to Ron DeSantis’ desk.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is known for his willingness to stand up and fight for his beliefs, even if it doesn’t win him any friends with the political elites.
During the pandemic, DeSantis opposed all of Joe Biden’s tyrannical COVID mandates, keeping Florida businesses and schools open while also banning mask and vaccine mandates.
DeSantis is leading the fight against “woke cancel culture” by banning the teaching of Marxist-based Critical Race Theory in Florida’s schools and classrooms.
And he’s taking action at the state level against Joe Biden’s border crisis.
But after all of the allegations of voter fraud and the questionable circumstances surrounding the 2020 elections, Ron DeSantis also became a leader in the fight for election integrity.
In 2020, DeSantis signed legislation that banned ballot harvesting, stopped mass mailing of ballots in Florida, and enhanced voter ID protections.
But during his recent State of the State Address, Ron DeSantis urged the Republicans in the State Legislature to send legislation to his desk that would protect election integrity and ensure Florida’s elections were free and secure.
And on Friday, Republicans in the Senate answered DeSantis’ call by passing a voting law measure – on a Party-line vote – that ensures election integrity by establishing an Office of Election Crimes.
The legislation would make more than a dozen changes to the state’s election laws, including creating a 15-person Office of Election Crimes and Security to investigate fraud complaints in the Secretary of State’s office, adding 10 state police officers, who are chosen by the Governor, to augment the newly-created office.
It also includes measures to protect against voter fraud, such as requiring election supervisors to clean up their voter rolls on an annual basis and changing the name of drop boxes to “ballot intake stations.”
But one of the proposals the Democrats hate the most is that it would make some election crimes a third-degree felony punishable by up to five years in prison.
This includes increasing the penalty for so-called “ballot harvesting,” which is a favorite tactic of the Left for rigging elections.
Of course, the legislation still has to clear the Republican-led State House before it reaches Governor DeSantis’ desk.
But House Republicans are expected to pass the legislation without significant changes, where it will then go to Ron DeSantis for his promised signature.
