Ron DeSantis promised to ensure Florida’s “institutions of higher learning are focused on academic excellence and the pursuit of truth” during his inaugural address.
Now DeSantis is proving that he meant business.
And all hell is breaking loose after Ron DeSantis threw down the gauntlet on woke ideology in higher education.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has set himself apart from other elected GOP officials in several areas over the past two years.
DeSantis stood up to Anthony Fauci and Joe Biden during the pandemic by refusing to enforce lockdowns and banning masks and vaccine mandates in the Sunshine State.
But the biggest way DeSantis set himself apart from the rest of the field was his willingness to stand up and fight back against the Left’s woke ideology.
For years, Republicans refused to even speak out against wokeism out of fear of being attacked and smeared by the media as “racist” or “sexist” or “anti-gay.”
As a result, the Left’s woke ideology took over virtually every aspect of American society, especially our country’s educational system.
Ron DeSantis took a stand in Florida by signing the Stop WOKE Act into law, which banned the teaching of Critical Race Theory in government schools.
He also signed a bill prohibiting biological males from competing in women’s sports and a bill banning teachers from brainwashing children in kindergarten through third grade with the Left’s homosexual and transgender agenda.
But DeSantis is not done fighting the Left.
During his inaugural address, he promised to “reject the woke ideology” and stop “the imposition of trendy ideology” in Florida’s institutions of higher learning.
One of the ways the Left has turned colleges and universities into indoctrination factories is through the use of so-called Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) programs, which are packed full of Critical Race Theory (CRT) and gender insanity.
During a press conference on Tuesday, DeSantis dropped the hammer on DEI and CRT programs with a promise to eliminate all funding for them at public universities.
“We want to make sure that everybody who goes through a Florida university has to take certain core course requirements that are really focused on giving them the foundation so they can think for themselves,” DeSantis said. “And the core curriculum must be grounded in the actual history and actual philosophy that has shaped western culture.”
“Our institutions will be graduating students with degrees that will actually be useful,” he added.
DeSantis then threw down the gauntlet on woke education.
“We are also going to eliminate all DEI and CRT bureaucracies in the state of Florida,” DeSantis said. “No funding – and that will wither on the vine.”

DeSantis is leading the charge to take back control of education from the woke Left and put it back in the hands of parents where it belongs.
And that is one reason why he is wildly popular with GOP voters.
