Florida Governor Ron DeSantis drives leftists crazy.
There is a building epidemic of DeSantis Derangement Syndrome building on the Left.
And MSNBC just attacked Ron DeSantis for this insane reason.
Ron DeSantis won re-election by 20 points because DeSantis knows how to pick popular fights that send Democrats into stark raving mad opposition to issues most people see as common sense.
DeSantis set the template for this strategy last year when DeSantis supported legislation banning groomers from targeting children in grades K-3 with sexually inappropriate lesson plans about transgenderism.
Democrats and the media flew off the handle, but polls showed a majority of Floridians – including a majority of Democrat voters – supported the bill.
Education is a fertile ground for DeSantis because Democrats are slaves to the teachers union.
And DeSantis set off another media meltdown by proposing common sense rules about local school boards banning students from using their cell phones during class.
“I think to myself, ‘Why are these kids on their phones during class all the time?’ I mean, I think a school district would be totally within their rights to say, ‘You know what, leave your phone in some cubby or something, go sit in class and learn, and if you get it at recess and you want to text people, fine.’ But they should not be always on their phones being distracted from the lesson. So, I think that our school boards will be able to lean in on some stuff, too, to buttress what we’re doing. And I look forward to being able to do that,” DeSantis stated.
This sounded unobjectionable.
Class time is for learning and DeSantis said students could text or use social media at lunchtime or recess that would be ok.
But stopping students from using their phones when they are supposed to be paying attention to what is being taught set off MSNBC columnist and New York University professor Ruth Ben-Ghiat.
Ben-Ghiat compared DeSantis wanting to ban cell phones in class to Nazi Germany.
“He is so dangerous in every way. Truly an authoritarian personality,” Ben-Ghiat posted on social media.
Ben-Ghiat followed up, claiming stopping students from texting during math class was the continuation of a supposed “trend” where DeSantis wants to impose his will on private businesses, libraries, and schools.
“It is not the phones, people. It is the arrogance of a man who wants to control everyone and everything: businesses, students, other politicians. He wants to dictate what you learn and read, how you train your employees, and much more,” Ben-Ghiat added.
There is virtually no one opposed to banning cell phones in classrooms.
Just like when DeSantis banned vaccine passports, mask mandates and grooming children there was little backlash because Floridians realized DeSantis preserved freedom in Florida.
