Ron DeSantis just asked members of Congress one question that every American wants answered

Florida has a budget surplus under Governor Ron DeSantis’ leadership.

Meanwhile, the federal government is over $31 trillion in debt.

And Ron DeSantis just asked members of Congress one question that every American wants answered.

Ron DeSantis recently rolled out his “Framework for Freedom” budget proposal for Fiscal Year 2023-2024.

The Freedom Budget totals $114.8 billion, with total reserves exceeding $15 billion.

But it also includes more than $400 million in unused COVID federal relief funds.

According to POLITICO, $220 million of that will go toward providing $1,000 bonuses for first responders.

During a recent press conference, POLITICO reporter Gary Fineout asked DeSantis to comment on Senator Rick Scott’s letter urging Governors to “reject and return unused federal funding” from the COVID-19 relief packages.

On January 20, Senator Scott sent a letter to “Governors and Mayors” asking them to return any unused federal funding.

“For over a year, I have been calling on governors and mayors across the United States to reject and return any unused federal funding from these massive and wasteful multi-trillion dollar “COVID” spending packages,” Scott’s letter read. “I last wrote to you on March 10, 2021, with a simple and common sense request: each state and local government should commit to reject and return any federal funding in excess of your reimbursable COVID19 related expenses,” the letter continued, adding that “today, I am writing to inform you that Congress has finally passed into law legislation that allows for the return of COVID-19 stimulus dollars to help pay down the federal debt.”

DeSantis stood by his decision and mocked the idea that returning the funds would even make a dent in the national debt.

“If you look at how much money that is, a few hundred million?” DeSantis said. “How much dent would that make in the [national] debt?”

“I appreciate when federal folks are concerned about how we’re managing this – why don’t they get their house in order?” DeSantis continued, before asking one question every American would like Congress to answer. “Why don’t they stop spending so much of our money?”

DeSantis makes a good point.

As Scott admitted in his letter to Governors and Mayors, the national debt is over $31.5 trillion and rising.

Instead of begging Governors like DeSantis to return unused federal COVID relief funds, members of Congress need to handle this massive debt crisis facing the country.
