Florida Governor Ron DeSantis tried to show conservatives how to fight back against woke corporations trying to bully red states into accepting the Left’s agenda.
But some Republicans just stabbed DeSantis right in the back.
And you won’t believe which Republican just sided with Disney against Ron DeSantis.
Former Vice President Mike Pence is likely to run against Ron DeSantis for the GOP nomination.
Pence is trying to carve out his lane as the Mitt Romney/John McCain-style establishment Republican.
In an interview on CNBC, Pence sought to establish himself as the kind of “reasonable” pre-Trump Republican that the media could embrace by coming out against Ron DeSantis stripping Disney of their special tax breaks and privileges for trying to kill the Parental Rights in Education Act.
Host Andrew Ross Sorkin asked Pence about the DeSantis-Disney feud and falsely claimed DeSantis was practicing cancel culture.
“What do you think of DeSantis did with Disney in Florida? There’s two ways to look at it. One is to say Disney spoke out on a political or social issue, but then clearly, there was retribution political against them. I think it’s empirical what happened. He said as much when he did it. So people talk about cancel culture. Some people say, well, you know, they’re canceling on one side. The other side says DeSantis used his political power to cancel them,” Sorkin stated.
Pence readily agreed, claiming it violated limited government principles for red states to refuse to grant tax breaks and special goodies to Democrat-aligned organizations.
“I would say two things, number one, I fully supported Florida’s initiative to protect kids and protect parental rights. I was just in Iowa last week where there’s literally a school, the Linn-Mar Community School, that will allow a student to get a transition plan without parental at notice or approval. I fully support what Florida did about protecting kids under the third grade. But Look, Disney stepped into the fray, they lost. But the idea of going after the taxing authority, you know, that was beyond the scope of what I, as a conservative, limited-government Republican would be prepared to do,” Pence began.
Pence was one of the original Republicans who showed that woke corporations could intimidate him on social issues.
When Pence served as Governor of Indiana, Pence almost destroyed his career by caving to the NCAA and other corporations by rescinding a religious liberty bill that the woke Left claimed would discriminate against homosexuals and transgenders.
Only Donald Trump picking Pence as his running mate saved Pence’s career.
There is nothing wrong with red states refusing to grant woke corporations special goodies after they demand Republican legislatures kill legislation to ban biological males from playing girl’s sports, using the girl’s bathroom, or to stop teachers from indoctrinating children with sexually inappropriate lesson plans.
If woke corporations want to meddle in politics and act like a Democrat Party special interest then they can’t count on special favors from Republicans.
Mike Pence is going to run for President on a platform of not fighting back against woke corporations.
His defeatist campaign will likely end in failure.
