The Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade sent the issue of abortion back to each individual state.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has called on the Republican supermajority to pass strong Pro-Life legislation.
But you’ll be seeing red when you find out how this one Republican Senator is trying to stop Ron DeSantis.
Abortion is considered a sacred right in the Democrat Party.
Democrats believe in unrestricted access to abortion on demand up until the moment of birth and sometimes after.
After the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, several GOP-led legislatures went to work passing legislation restricting abortions in their states.
Before the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade last year, DeSantis signed a bill into law banning abortions after 15 weeks in the Sunshine State.
“This is a child that deserves protection,” DeSantis said at the time. “You have a beating heart, the baby is capable of feeling pain,” DeSantis continued, adding that “when they do these abortions, particularly at that stage, I mean, they’re literally dismembering the unborn child, and it’s really horrific.”
The law took effect on July 1, 2022.
But Desantis is not done fighting for unborn babies.
In February, a reporter asked DeSantis “what are the chances you’ll sign the six-week heartbeat bill if it comes to your desk?”
DeSantis promised to sign the bill.
“We’re for Pro-Life,” he said. “I urge the legislature to work, produce good stuff, and we will sign.”
Since Ron DeSantis is armed with a Republican supermajority in the state legislature, sending a heartbeat bill to his desk should be a fairly easy task for lawmakers in Tallahassee.
However, Florida State Senate President Kathleen Passidomo is scheming behind the scenes to stop any Pro-Life bill from making it to DeSantis’ desk.
“In a vacuum, Passidomo would prefer not to further restrict abortion in Florida, said Florida Senate Minority Leader Lauren Book (D), who says she is close with Passidomo and says she speaks to her regularly about abortion,” The Washington Post reported.
Now Students for Life Action is calling on Kathleen Passidomo to stop protecting abortionists and pass Pro-Life legislation now with a nationwide petition drive.
“Normally, I wouldn’t ask supporters across the country to bother contacting a Senate President in another state . . . But I believe your action today can help save the lives of the 90,000+ preborn boys and girls who are being put to death by abortionists every year in Florida – and hundreds of thousands more across the country,” Students for Life Action President Kristan Hawkins wrote in an email to supporters.
Many Pro-Lifers are shocked to find that Florida currently has the fifth highest abortion rate in America.
And with Republicans holding an 84-35 majority in the House and a 28-12 majority in the Senate, there is no reason why a Pro-Life bill should not make it to DeSantis’ desk.
But Passidomo is showing voters she doesn’t care about the more than 90,000 babies aborted each year in Florida.
And the RINO Senate leader is plotting to kill pro-life bills behind the scenes, potentially derailing Ron DeSantis’ 2024 momentum before it even begins.
